Concealed arms reciprocity rejected by Senate

In a rare win for gun control advocates, the Senate on Wednesday rejected a measure allowing a person with a concealed weapon permit in one state to also hide his firearm when visiting another state. The vote was 58-39 in favor of the provision establishing concealed carry permit reciprocity in the 48 states that have concealed weapons laws. That fell two votes short of the 60 needed to approve the measure, offered as an amendment to a defense spending bill.

Opponents prevailed in their argument that the measure violated states rights by forcing states with stringent requirements for permits to recognize concealed weapons carriers from states that give out permits to almost any gun owner.

Look up the word “useless” in the dictionary. You will find a photo of George Voinovich as part of that entry.

If state A has a no-issue for domestic battery and state B doesn’t, guess what you’ve got?

A guy that lost his gun rights because his vindictive ex-wife lied through her teeth to get him charged with a DV Misdemeanor and moved to a different State to get his gun rights back.

Lugar and Voinovich, could have made it 60, but alas 2 more RINOS to be added to the “should of went with Specter” list. It's one thing when the Dems use their numbers and pass legislation. It's another when the GOP gets screwed over by turncoats from within. Oh well, the RINOS run the GOP, so one should expect RINOy results I guess.

Can anybody post what the roll call vote was?

That's what I'd like to know too.

Very possible, but now who’s bringing in a different issue into the debate? Of course I see your point, but that’s a fix that must be done external to this issue. Then again, it’s also not good policy to pass or kill laws based on what “might” happen.

58-39

Don't despair yet, guys. That's pretty darned good! we almost had a supermajority. Only reason it didn't pass was sponsors didn't want to face down a filibuster. Send your senators a backbone and tell 'em to try again.

Good. Keep the Feds out of the CCW business.

Agreed, leave it up to the states.

The battles for Concealed Carry in the various states started over 20 years ago.

Now the Fed wants to jump on the band wagon at the same time BATF wants to crush new gun rights in states like Montana, Tennessee and others.

Beware when Washington says: I am from the federal government and I am here to help you.

Voinovich and Lugar were the only two Republicans to vote against it: Link

Their two votes would've given us the required 60 for passage.

...the liberal SOBs.

I'm surprised that both of my Dem Senators, (Webb, Warner), voted in favor.

Either it was a blind pig moment or a ruse to say that they're pro 2nd Amendment.

"Not fun, but I do believe it does violate states rights, and I don’t want a guy from a state with a “no-issue” for domestic violence driving to the next state to get a license from a state that doesn’t have one."

Can't happen. To get a CCW one still has to go through a background check, and the "misdemeanor domestic violence" exclusion is FEDERAL, not state (never mind that NO misdemeanor should disqualify one from owning firearms--FELONY, yes, misdemeanor, no).

But the good news is that when the queers go to the Congress to get reciprocity for their "marriage" licenses, the same argument will apply...AGAINST THEM./

A blessing in disguise. Keep the stinkin’ federales out of the infringing-law business when it comes to guns and states’ rights.

That would be "door Number Two".

Interesting tidbit, I didn't know that. Maybe the point that gentleman brought up earlier about women who lie about battery had a better argument than I gave him credit for.

I wouldn't count on the argument being of use to us though. Courts make special exceptions with regards to such matters, it would seem.

Hmmm.... conviction for Domestic violence makes you ineligible to own firearms all together. That is Federal Law already.

Lugar and Voinovich only defectors. And it fell 2 votes short.

The Maine twins voted right. Flip flopping rat Kristen Gillbrand voted nay.

I didn’t know gun rights had become quite so popular.
Why didn’t they pass this when the GOP had the Senate?
