Republican Governor Sarah Palin may be packing this week to leave the Alaska governor's mansion, but she isn't going to exit public life.
Neither are her policies disappearing, any more than is the large constituency she appeals to with its jingoism, Cold War symbolism, proclivity toward economic protectionism and lack of sophistication about business, banking or regulatory reform.
Palin is the Michael Jackson of politics, and my prediction is that she is likely to end up in the media on her way to another bid for the White House. Her next gig should be as a Fox Network anchor with her own prime-time slot, so that she can interview public figures, preachers and celebrities. Alternately, she should host an afternoon show and become America's right-wing Oprah. Or she could go lower down the food chain as the hostess of a show on some religious cable company.
To me, she and Fox are made for each other. She would be instantly bankable for the network with its blowhard hosts and self-selected audience of God-fearing Republicans who have made up their minds on just about everything and everyone.
Polls show that a huge whack of Americans love Palin's policy reductionism: good versus evil, American versus un-American. They don't want to be confused by the messy grey bits between black-and-white thinking.
Her appeal may be hard for Canadians, Europeans and others to understand, but not for pollsters. Her candidacy actually closed the yawning gap in support between Obama and McCain, according to a McCain insider I spoke with recently. Some 46% of voters were willing to put her one heartbeat away from the presidency.

I started clipping bits to quote in a response, but gave up. Every line of this is right out of the bitchy leftist playbook. Completely predictable, and predictably hateful.
ok, that was really nice.
now why doesn’t she tell us what she really thinks about us ? I guess there would be too much profanity if she did.
Let me guess, this woman has never run a business and literally has no idea what she’s talking about...

Sarah Palin and Diane Francis. He he!
The crap this woman has had to go through, for doing nothing more than espousing the same beliefs that millions of Americans have— it’s earned her my eternal respect, and my support if she decides to run.
I fear Diane is projecting.
You see this over and over in real life. If a women is “Hot” every women around her undermines any accomplishment or idea.
My wife who is 40 looks like she is 30 and the fact that she still turns heads makes other women in our business are just beside themselves to destroy her for no reason. Nothing to do with her real talents and ideas just looks period.
To Freepers, Diana Francis is the token lib idiot on the National Post. I know, I used to read her when the National Post came to prominence in Canada not too long time ago.
The NP leans to the right in most ocassions but just like IBD and Fox, there are a few libs like Diane here who are clueless like most elitist canadians who think they’re smarter than Americans.
That article gave me a headache. So many lib cliches delivered with such venom in such a short space...
My apologies. We are saddled with so many anti-American idiots in that country that’s why I left..
Polls show that a huge whack of Americans love Palin’s policy reductionism: good versus evil, American versus un-American. They don’t want to be confused by the messy grey bits between black-and-white thinking.
Liberals continue to focus on the messy grey bits while
trying to ignore the fact that some of the black or white
bits are trying to A. Kill them, B. subvert their form of
government, C.. Both.
There is no nuance to the Taliban,
the Cold War is not “over”.
Canada has always kind of puzzled me, to be honest. The Canadians I've met have been really shockingly full of bile for the US. I sometimes took the bait and fired back, but usually I just kind of laughed and that made them even angrier.
Seems like a nice place to visit.
I think I know Diane’s problem: she was always the last to get picked for “Red-Rover-Red-Rover”, and she always stood in the corner at school dances.
It is the female version of penis-envy, whatever that might be. The plain fact is Sarah Palin is I-D-D-G and Diane Francis ain’t. Sarah Palin won beauty queen contests and Diane Francis got touched by the Ugly Stick. Sarah Palin got picked to be Governor of an American state and Diane Frances got picked to be a Scolding Fish-Wife. Sarah Palin is going to be President of the US one day, and Diane is still going to be ugly.
The best that Diane Francis can do is write mean articles that only people on the FRee Republic read, and even then only so that we can make fun of them!
“Hey Diane Francis! Boo-Hoo Sucks to You!!!”

The next President of the United States, and the Scolding Fish-Wife.
Egads, Sarah is lovely. No wonder these feminist nags all hate her.
Cobra’s fangs. Dripping venom. (Just offhand, I’d say the poor lady was a bit jelous...)
Just for the record, Francis was born in Chicago, is an accomplished columnist , is more of a libertarian than Liberal and for some reason dislikes Palin. How you judgementally refer to Canadians as “ full of bile toward Amercanicans’ as the result of an expat American’s Palin bash astonishes me. Canadians like Americans. In fact we are Americans too. As politically divided as the U.S and getting nastier about it day by day.I promise you next time Ann Coulter disses Canada I won’t stereotype all Americans as “full of bile”.
When did I say this was a result of an expat American's Palin bash?
