Voting rate dips as older whites stay home
About 63.6 percent of the nation's eligible voters cast ballots in November
WASHINGTON - For all the attention generated by Barack Obama's candidacy, the share of eligible voters who actually cast ballots in November declined for the first time in a dozen years.
The reason: Older whites with little interest in backing either Barack Obama or John McCain stayed home.
Census figures released Monday show about 63.6 percent of the nation's eligible voters, or 131.1 million people, voted last November.
Although that represented an increase of 5 million voters virtually all of them minorities the turnout relative to the population of eligible voters was a decrease from 63.8 percent in 2004.
Ohio and Pennsylvania were among those showing declines in white voters, helping Obama carry those battleground states.

That's horse-feces! Given the choice of Dumb and Dumber, which would be the better choice?
A- Neither. I went third party. The only thing McStain had going for him was Sara Palin.
Unfortunately, the corrupt two party sham, has left many totally disillusioned and burned out.
Actually, the RNC gave the assist.
As I reported at the time (having polled people at my church) many conservatives wont vote for a liberal, even with an R in front of the name.
And even if the country now collapses all at once, this really is better than a slow slide into a two socialist party political situation.
I’ve never believed in candidate drafts, but I’m certainly hoping for somebody, anybody really. Just gotta get McCain out without it going to the dems.
You’d think the ground would be ripe for one of the 3rd parties, but they’re wallowing in their own filth almost as bad as the big 2.
If I were in Arizona, I’d right someone in, maybe myself, just as a protest vote.
How different do you really think things would be with McCain in? He supports TARP, he supports the GM bailout, he supported the “stimulus”, and he’s a long standing enemy of the 1st Amendment.
It’s not a matter of not voting for someone who isn’t 100% true conservative. It’s a matter of not voting for someone who sucks. McCain is no good. He’s a lousy senator and he would have made a lousy president.
He’s definitely not getting my vote next go round. How I’ll not vote for him depends on the candidates presented, but the minute he made campaign finance reform a major career goal I swore off voting for him for any office in any way.
No,insanity is what we have in the WH right now. I understand your frustration. I think the tide is turning, and perhaps if we hadn’t elected this marxist, we wouldn’t be turning the tide, so it may serve to be beneficial to our cause that he was elected in the long run. But, the truth is, I would have welcomed moderate McCain if it kept Obama out of power. I think our country could have survived. At least checks and balances would have kept everyone in gridlock. As it is now, Obama is unfettered to wreak havoc on our country to destroy it. And he is.
Last November, voters under 30 cast ballots for Obama by a 2-to-1 ratio.
My statement that it is the older white voters who should contemplate punishing the young voters for whatever harm Obama brings, rather than vice versa, is 100% true.
The youth vote went big for Obama, while the white vote is the strength of the Republican party, as the RINOs who think we should pander to every minority group in sight never tire of reminding us.
From your #80:
I am talking about the younger generations who are going to be cast into socialist slavery who were not even old enough to make the economic decisions for themselves that will effect their lives.....Do you think you should lynch them....?!
So, why are they voting for Obama 2 to 1? Apparently, they have no clue what they are voting for by 67% to 33%. It is not older whites who elected Obama, but blacks, Hispanics, young people of all ethnics, and leftist whites in the north and on the west coast.
So much harder than you think. Each of the parties are multi-billion dollar non-profit corporations.
Think about that. Worse, look at all the committee rules, and how they’ve been written exclusively for two party rule.
Consider also that the GAAP disclosure rules for non-profits guarantee financial opacity, which is ironic. For profit companies are held to much higher standards in terms of transparency.
Did you know that MasterCard, until recently, was a not-for-profit?
It’s a crazy world.

NO, you don’t understand. Not sure you even read what I said?!
Your statement is not 100% true or false—it is your opinion; opinions don’t carry percentage values of true or false.
The white vote obviously did not vote Republican/for McCain—they stayed home or voted Obama—otherwise McCain would have won. I don’t know how many college aged voted for Obama as a percentage of the total population, but the under 20 group in total is only 27% of total population (only 18-20 year-olds can vote, so not that high a percentage of total population). They did not do it alone & like I said if you had read the post, they are lacking wisdom by definition. They spend 4 years going to college to get a degree to be employable and thereby contribute to society;and often, many of them in the process sadly are indoctrinated with liberal thinking. That is the reality of higher education. It then takes a few years of real-world experience & paying for everything themselves (including taxes) to shake off all the BS they learned in libe3ral studies classes. I am not making excuses for them, but the others who are older who voted for the dear leader like I mentioned Unions, government workers, SOC. Sec. Medicare, etc. they should have know better....
However, you misunderstand & I wish you would have read what I posted before. I am talking about younger generations who cannot even vote yet?! Young teens, just 18 year olds, etc. You cannot hold them accountable can you?!!!
...Just for starters prior to all the new spending we are going broke on social security, medicare, medicaid. These are not programs that were approved or voted for by younger generations or those who voted for Obama yet they are being asked and will be asked to pay even higher rates in the future when the hyperinflation kicks in. This is likely when my daughter graduates from college and has to start paying 70% taxes. Add to that the spending (now estimated to be perhaps as high as 23 TRILLION?!) That has occured since January—it is not fair to them. Period.
If you want to discuss RINOs we can talk RINOs but you've got to agree to the correct definitions and not wobble all over the place. And Fur Shur, don't screw up what "Country Club Republican" means ~ it doesn't mean a guy who plays golf.
All you did was usher in the Apocalypse.
Little interest? LITTLE INTEREST? God, I could line these people up and slap them! The future of the country wasn't interesting enough for them?
Republicans win the white vote by significant margins, and have for several decades in presidential elections.
The white vote obviously did not vote Republican/for McCainthey stayed home or voted Obamaotherwise McCain would have won.
McCain won the white vote, but the Dems' huge margins in the black and Hispanic vote gave them the election.
Roosevelt began the programs that started us toward our current mess, then LBJ added to them greatly in the 1960s. Both parties have contributed to our deficits the past 30 or so years, but nothing has been previously attempted that would add as much to the deficit, and debt, and interest expense as what Obama proposes
No, you can't blame those under 18, but we can sure blame the starry eyed and incredibly naive college aged and twenty somethings who went 2 to 1 for Obama in some sort of immature, pack mentality common to college aged kids.
Who you can really blame are the leftists, and those who vote with them: Liberal white, black Americans, Hispanic Americans, and all sorts of narrow interest groups like feminists and gays and environmental extremists, who have members from all ethnic groups.
But Republicans do win the white vote, and have for decades.
Yes.
Next Question.
You are so correct. I think the bastard Huckabee needs to shoulder much of the blame here. Because of his spat with Rpmney, he telegraphed Evangelicals to stay home. He also split the New Hampshire vote that allowed McCain to get back his momentum. I hope he NEVER runs again.
Never said I needed a 100% Conservative, I'm just not voting for a 10% Conservative because he/she happens to have an "R" after his/her name. If that's how you wish to roll be my guest, I'm just not going down that road ever again.
Remember "McInsane" halted his campaign to run to Washington to hand out Bailout Bucks. I Held my nose to vote for him and its the last time that will ever happen.
BTW "Mitt ain't itt!" (No matter how many polls the RINOS produce saying he is running neck and neck with Barry Hussein.) BTW McAmnesty lost Ohio for one reason and one reason only, that useless Liberal RINO Governor Taft and his whole dirty cabal of thieves and Politiclowns that destroyed the Ohio G.O.P.
