My turn coat GOP congressman announces for Senate
The American Thinker ^ | July 20, 2009 | Nancy J. Thorner

Posted on 07/19/2009 10:37:41 PM PDT by Scanian

Given that my American Thinker blog of June 28 -- Betrayed by my Republican Congressman -- took to task my renegade 10th District congressman, Mark Steven Kirk, for his "yes" vote on the Waxman-Marky bill, I was somewhat amused when I received late in the afternoon of Thursday, July 16, an e-mail invitation to join Mark Kirk this morning at 10:30 A.M. in Kenilworth, IL, to help him launch his candidacy for statewide office. As Mark Kirk noted on my invitation: "I want you to be there as we begin a campaign to restore pride to Illinois and put our country back on track."

Kirk's decision to seek an upgrade to his title did not come as a surprise. For months Kirk had expressed interest in running either for the U.S. Senate or the governorship of Illinois. Senator Burris' announcement that he would not seek reelection to a full term in 2010 -- Burris was appointed to the U.S. Senate by the then and now impeached Gov. Rod Blagojevich to replace Senator Obama -- apparently gave Mark Kirk the impetus he needed to think that he could be successful in his senate bid.

One must understand the nature of politics in Illinois to comprehend what prompted Mark Kirk to believe he could be successful in a statewide run for office. Mark Kirk represents the moderate/liberal wing of the Republican Party. Kirk even prides himself on being an independent, maverick Republican, as was evident when he decided to vote with 211 congressional Democrats and against 168 of his fellow Republican congressmen on the Waxman-Markey bill. Kirk does have the reputation in his 10th Congressional District of deciding how to vote by sticking his finger in the air to determine which way the wind is blowing.

Well, with Kirk in, that means the Democrats will have two candidates in the November run-off.

Is Jesse Jr going to run as the democrat? With the Chicago machine, he would win IMO.

Nothing new. I remember when Paul Simon (bowtied old version of Franken) ran against the Rino scoundrel Charles Percy. Illinois has been hopeless for a long time.

Paul Simon, LOL. Haven’t thought of him in such a long time. Soon as he opened his month, he’d put people to sleep.

Just what we need, another newly-divorced Republican Senate candidate....

Dems will roll out the red carpet for him while simultaneously laughing their a**es off:

“Jeri Ryan II?” This is just TOO easy!”

Instead of tan elephant we’ll have to change the GOP mascot to a bunch of ducks in a barrel.

Yeah and Simon won, during the Reagan era no less.

There will be other Republicans in the primary. Eric Wallace, Don Lowery, and Robert Zadek.

MARION, Ill. - A retired southern Illinois judge says he wants to be a U.S. senator.

Sixty-two-year-old Don Lowery of Dixon Springs in Pope County says he’ll be running as a Republican for the Senate seat now held by Roland Burris.

He announced his candidacy Friday during a Marion news conference

>> Is Jesse Jr going to run as the democrat? With the Chicago machine, he would win IMO. <<

Given that Jesse Jr. got caught up in the whole "Senate seat for bribes" thing that ended Blago's career, I'd say JJJ's chance of being the RAT nominee are slim-to-none and he knows it. The other RATs would ridicule him as "Senate candidate no. #5" and JJJ would be forced to answer all those questions against about why his brother was willing to accept bribes on his behalf without telling him. Jesse won't run.

So far we have ultra corrupt Obama buddy/State Treasurer/Mob banker Alexi Giannoulias, Chicago Urban League President Cheryl Jackson (black woman, but no relation to the Jesse's), and inbred Kennedy cousin Chris Kennedy as likely RAT candidates.

>> Well, with Kirk in, that means the Democrats will have two candidates in the November run-off. <<

Field is right. Kirk is so far left that nominating him as "our" candidate means it's a November election between two liberal DemocRAT candidates. His defenders can't even think of anything "Republican" Kirk supported lately besides voting no on porkulus after he was forced to by the GOP leadership. The only difference between a socialist like Kirk and a socialist like Kennedy is Kirk has better teeth (and is less honest about his agenda than Kennedy)

Kirk was under fire today in Arlington Heights and promised a GOP audience he'd be a no vote on Obamacare. Of course he also said in 2005 that he was a staunch supporter of the WOT and would oppose the Dem's cut-and-run agenda. Then the little treasonous weasel turned around and voted AGAINST the surge and led a group of "moderate" Republicans to the white house to protest Bush. Kirk has proven to be a lying scumbag and can't be trusted.

Hopefully we Illinois freepers will have a better chance to freep that commie down the road, after he becomes an official Senate candidate on Monday and has to defend his "moderate" record.

That’s how I put it also.

If he wins everyone will hail it as big victory for the party. But in reality it means we’ll have a younger version of Arlen Specter.

Marks claims he “got the message” at yesterday’s ROWT roasting ... but somehow I doubt it.

I attended the meeting, in Arlington Heights. Someone asked Kirk, “If you could redo your cap & trade vote, how would you vote?” He said, “I got your message very loud and clear.” A few people yelled, “Answer the question yes or no!” Kirk said, “I won’t answer that.”

If Kirk wins, it won’t be a victory for the republican party. It will be a victory for liberalism.

I haven’t voted for this lying POS in any of the voting cycles and I’m not starting now. The IL republican party is as dumb as hell.

I been registered in Kirk’s district since 2001, and I haven’t voted for him. I skip that section, of the ballot, since he’s as liberal as the Democrats.

Who should run for his U.S. House seat? I hope that a conservative elected official will run, but the majority of the state legislators and county commissioners, in his district, are Democrats or RINO’s.

So, is any reporter going to ask this tool the most obvious question of all time, “What within the Republican platform do you actually support?”

Kirk damn'ed himself in my eyes this morning on WLS-AM when he admitted he didn't read the Cap & Tax bill before he voted for it. Based on that alone, that son of a bitch will never get my vote. I'll sit on my hands before I vote for that RINO bastard.
