Broadcast journalist Walter Cronkite has died at age 92, The New York Times reports.

I have very mixed feelings about this. I grew up with this man as the voice of reassurance during some very troubled times in the 1960's 70's & 80's. His was the quiet voice of American pride. At least that was how I perceived him when I was a child. Then I heard him making commentary during a space launch after I got off active duty and he was talking quite blatantly about the coming New World Order and our duty to submit to the United Nations as ruler. Then I heard him comment on the need to take all the guns away from the people and give them to the UN and I just lost all respect for the man. His replacement, Dan Rather was almost worse, but that's to be expected. I had a lot of childhood illusions and firm beliefs shattered by Cronkite and that's never a fun experience. I'd say RIP, but since I seriously doubt he was a Christian I'd have to say I wouldn't want to be him standing before God, right now, trying to 'splain himself!

It should have happened years ago, like during the Tet Offensive in ‘Nam. Death was way too nice for a guy like this. Hope he holds a place for Jimma Carter when he finally stops using up valuable air.

I remember my Dad, may he rest in peace, yelling at Cronkite on the TV during the Viet-Nam era.

Nixon, as a result of taking the fight to them and bombing them into the stone age, did make the North come crawling to the negotiating table. And in 1972 they singed a peace treaty with us that was very positive to our side and had them in effect losing the war.

We then began withdrawing, particularly after Nixon resigned. The libs had to get rid of Nixon...and they did. What he did pales in comparison to Clinton and the Obamanation...but he had to go.

After he left, the North built up and in 1974 violated the terms of the treaty they had signed with us and conducted a massive invasion of the south. Rather than build back up and fight this blatant violation and agression...we continued to leave because of the libs, dems, left, and MSM.

Hundreds of thousands of our friends were butchered, hundreds thousands more took to the sea in delapitated boats and rafts.

It led to the killing fields in Cambodia, and to a distrust of us throughout the world and by many of our allies that lasted until Reagen built us back up and then we used it to good effect in the 1st Gulf War. (With Granada and Panam in between).

Cronkite was a big part of all of that negative consequence.

I am assigning myself several hrs. extra work out in the yard, this weekend (oh, wait, I was gonna do that anyway 'cause we're having highs in the 70's and lows on the mid 50's this weekend... In the Mid-South in July!!! It must be global warming!!!) Then if I get worn out, I am going to pull out some Babylon 5 DVD's, making sure to include the episode "The Illusion Of Truth". "Dan Randall" indeed. Heheh.

I liked Cronkite's reporting in the 60's and 70's on the space program.

Excellent analysis / history. What's amazing to me is that many of those friends, even though we abandoned them, still wanted to come here (at the risk of death), some made it, and with little but hope and hard work, most of the survivors did ok or better.

RIP Mr. Cronkite, I watched you as a kid and you were very trusted. I grew up and realized that trust was based on a one-sided liberal bs opinion. (I do appreciate the moon-landing fascination though)

I used to love his history movies that we used to watch in the hallway of my Catholic School. Titles like “It’s the Boston Tea Party and You Are There!”

I remember those, too. Boy, am I getting old.
