Prepare now.

Choose this day how you will serve; Will you serve unwillingly and at the bidding of others wearing the yoke of socialism or will you hold true to the course of our forefathers’ standing tall and serving freely? As for me I choose to SERVE THE REPUBLIC!

Morning papers circulated chiefly in the city cores, among a readership more liberal, and tended to be Democrat. Evening papers circulated more beyond the city, among a readership more conservative, and tended to be Republican. But from any given city, there were two distinct party points of view, and better-informed people read both newspapers. (In Canada, same thing, but Liberal and Conservative parties; in this very town, the examples were the Ottawa Citizen and the Ottawa Journal.)

Good point. The NY Post was originally an afternoon paper. When I lived in SF, the now defunct Examiner (conservative) was also an afternoon paper. I'd never thought of it this way before!

Other than that, though, I don't think he's right in implying that those of us who are conservative are innately anti-technology. Obviously, the fact that we're reading this now shows that we're not! And Sarah Palin certainly cannot be accused of being anti-technology or wanting us to revert to an imagined pre-electronic paradise.

It's only the radical Dem ecologists who want that. One of Bambi's "czars" wrote wistfully of the time before Africans had electricity, how they were out in the street pounding their drums...not to mention having a life expectancy of 35, getting debilitating diseases that left them blind as children, living on maize gruel...well, you get the idea. The Dems are the ones who are backwards and secret Luddites.

"Bring it on"

What does that mean? If you believe in something you should take the initiative.

It's not left vs. right, Democrat vs. Republican, or even liberal vs. conservative; it's state vs. freedom. All of the functions of the state (i.e. government) infringe on our freedom. Anybody who advocates the expansion of this liberty-destroying burden, for any reason is an enemy.

Socialism is the vilest evil. It is unacceptable to hold socialist views, to elect persons supporting or advaocating socialism or socialist policies to office, or to have any business dealings with such people (including having them as employees.) It is also unacceptable to buy products from any companies that in any way support or even condone socialism.

That needs to be our message, our mantra and our non-negotiable policy that governs everthing we do and say.

Increasingly, I find, people on the left simply cannot accept any right-wing view as legitimate.”

Or rather, he’s becoming increasingly aware of it. Leftards have always been that way. On the other hand, all leftist thought, from the limousine liberalism of a George Clooney to the mass murders of Mao, Stalin, or Pol Pot, is of and from Satan. It is a contaminant in the human cognosphere, not a natural component of it. Although many who are not rabid leftist nonetheless accept this or that leftist proposition, it is therefore an error to accept any left-wing view as legitimate.

“We often read that the old categories of “left” and “right” have become irrelevant.”

They’ve never been more relevant, and we’ve never been more polarized.

“a war between two world views that have become very nearly mutually incomprehensible.”

No, while the left is unable to comprehend anything else, the right understands the left very well indeed.

It is to the earthlings in this scenario that Ms. Palin is speaking. And when she writes lines like this intentional jaw-dropper in the Washington Post -- "We are ripe for economic growth and energy independence if we responsibly tap the resources that God created right underfoot on American soil" -- she is quite intentionally signalling that she is ready for war.

There has been a cultural war going on for about 5 decades. There has been a political war going on since Reagan between right and left.

What kind of war is left?

Thanks to several of you for the link to Sarah’s article.
“Quietly declared” is right, with the operative word being ‘quietly’.
That was just way too subtle for me.
I have to be hit over the head a bit harder than most.
I come here and other news sites daily
watching for signs of things to come
and you can feel it coming in the air.
I do not know what happens next.
But if you ain’t ready, you better get ready.

I agree. It appears to be unavoidable at this point. Either join up Rs or get out of the way.

Not only is it coming, it is necessary. A cleansing, a reckoning, is what is needed. One side or the other must prevail. There is no room left for compromise. I can’t wait.

The Demonrats think they can pull these totalitarian policies over on the public which has remained ignorant, but it will start to be felt by the public and it will eventually turn on them. These people are the definition of tyrants mocking the United States of America. They have no respect for our Constitution and right now think they can get away with this with no consequences. And people need to rise up against this.

When I was a child in the late 40s and early 50s, there were of course many more newspapers than there are now. But it wasn't only a Conservative/Liberal split, there were many more permutations.

When I made it to NYC for college, there were the NYT, (Lefty Dem, Jewish,Protestant), The Herald Tribune,(Conservative Protestant and Upper Class Catholics) The Daily News (Blue Collar Conservative Catholic, Democrat, Patriotic, Union) and The NY Post (Blue Collar Lefty, Jewish, Democrat, formerly Socialist, not so patriotic, union), Then there was the Telegram (White Collar Catholic Middle of the Road) The Sun, The Brooklyn Eagle, and the Wall Street Journal, even papers for real Commies.

One look in someone's living room or kitchen, and you know who and what you were going to be dealing with! As an older kid, II delivered a local paper, which slowly evolved into a liberal rag when it was sold to a chain, and I was forbidden to deal with it!
