Trig Palin has divided America
Politico ^ | 7-17-09 | Gary Bauer & Daniel Allott

Reactions to Sarah Palin’s decision to resign the governorship of Alaska have been a reminder of her unmatched ability to elicit strong emotions from friend and foe alike. We know some of the reasons why. It’s her evangelical Christianity and her folksy manner. It’s her small-town roots and her “new feminism.”

But there is something more. A year ago, Palin gave birth to her youngest son, Trig, who has Down syndrome. Since then, mother and son have become objects of the left’s unrelenting scorn and the right’s unflinching fidelity.

An underexamined reason why Palin is loved and loathed so fiercely is her intimate association with two of our most divisive issues: disability and the right to life.

In her resignation statement, Palin suggested her decision was due in part to her family’s reaction to personal attacks against Trig. Those comments stoked the rage of the Palin-haters. At Talking Points Memo, an article sarcastically suggested that Palin resigned because “she wants to spread Down syndrome ... because Down syndrome is just too cute to be reserved for one in 800 births.”

A Paliban Daily article titled “Sarah Palin’s Retarded Platform: More Trigs!” interpreted Palin’s outspokenness on disability rights as a political ploy to win votes. Other articles contained subtle but unmistakable eugenic overtones.

Sarah’s very existence gives the lie to the left’s claims of their own superior tolerance, love of diversity and inclusion, and respect for the choices of others.

She lives the kind of life they claim for themselves but to which they only give lip service.

Maybe Sarah Palin will be the worlds last example that
Jesus is our savior. I can't think of anyone right now who could have more of an impact on focusing our eyes on Christ.
She is a christian and kept her special son and they hate her for that. Maybe she will turn thoughts to Christ in her actions.

That was the most heartwarming thing I’ve ever read here.

You’re an angel!

She’s the “winnowing fork” in His hands,
separating the wheat and the chaff.

Reactions to her tell way more about the person speaking than about SP herself.

Palin is this cycle’s Emmanuel Goldstein - the focus of Party efforts to generate and channel hate by the masses.

I’m having trouble making sense of your post. Did you say the gay lobby ensured a stop on genetic tests for Down Syndrome? Doesn’t sound right to me.

As for your hypothetical question,

““If you knew your child would be born gay, would you bear that child?”

response #1: I can’t bear children.

response #2: You have set up a hypothesis contrary to fact, so the results are not useful.

They think that Sarah should have aborted her baby just because it had downs syndrome. I know of other people who have had chromosome issue and if their parents had aborted them then we would have lost several very intelligent people. The Left cries on end about diversity but when genetic diversity is stating them in the face they want it taken out with the bio hazard waste at the hospital. How callous of them.

Downs babies are probably just the beginning for the left, next thing they will mandate in their health care that all pregnant women get amniocentesis and if their baby shows any sort of genetic or chromosomal anomaly they will demand that the child be aborted. They will claim that this is for the health of the child that they don’t want to see if “suffer”. If that argument fails they will claim that it would be unfair to burden the parent with extra suffering and the taxpayers with the extra cost a developmentally disabled child may bring with them. Yeah that same argument was used by the Regressive “Progressives” of the early 1900’s for justification of sterilization of people.

The next targets of this cull will be those who have cerebral palsy, Sex chromosome anomalies, cystic fibrosis, or any other genetic condition that can be tested for, they will also start to justify the culling of those who may carry the genes but who don’t express those genes.

The dirty little secret is that genetic counseling can become a pseudo eugenics program quite quickly. All int he name of saving money and preventing the “suffering of others”.

Just for the record. Helen Keller was not born blind/deaf, her handicap is usually attributed to scarlet fever when she was a toddler.

He was as shocked as I was to hear what his friend said. His friend looked at him with a face of “Are you going to let your wife talk to me like that?” and my husband said “I hope you’re never blessed with a child. See ya, bud.”

I’ll repeat what I’ve posted before:

If there is anything the abortion party fears more than Sarah Palin it’s Sarah Palin holding Trig. They all have posters up in their offices of baby seals asking people to stop the senseless killing. They know they can’t reconcile that with the picture of Trig having his hair smoothed down by the wet fingers of his loving sister on national television.

That baby should be dead in their books. He terrifies them.

In the realm of human reproduction, “progressivism” apparently endorses the simultaneous exercise of eugenic and dysgenic practices. Kill off the “defectives” and “undesirables”, but also have a massive welfare state and nanny-state to protect favored individuals from the fruit of their own irresponsible and foolish actions. I think Germany tried that in the early-middle of the previous century.

I loved that. So hilarious and cute.

How any person in the world could desire to erase such a beautiful gift is beyond me.

“America has been divided far before Trig was born.”

Well said. I don’t want to make this a religious thing, but it seems to be between those who submit to a sovereign God and those who don’t. Our political and social problems are merely symptoms. Our true sickness is the decline of our morals - and our turning away from God. I don’t really like to mix religion and politics. I don’t want to force my views on anyone. But, I want this country to be healed, and to return to greatness. We will never do that if we leave God out of the equation.-—JM
