Federal vs. states’ rights issue picking up steam again (Go Florida!)

In a repeat of states’ rights eerily evocative of the legislative commotion before the Civil War, groups around the nation are pressing for their 10th Amendment rights.

It is, again, about the economy and disagreement over fundamental principles.

And, in Florida, a Southwest Florida legislator is leading the charge.

On July 1, Florida formally joined the states’ rights movement, with House Memorial Bill 19, pressing U.S. Congress to honor provisions of the U.S. Constitution’s 10th Amendment that states: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Co-sponsored by Rep. Matt Hudson, R-Naples, the bill’s two other primary supporters are Orlando Republicans: Reps. Ritch Workman and Scott Plakon.

As of Sunday, 21 other Florida legislators had signed the bill, and more than 1,300 Facebook.com members from all over the nation had joined www.FLFreedom.org.

Something like 40. Tennessee is the first to have a governor sign the resolution.

>>Bout time the fed squashed it<<

Let them try! If successful, all state governments become vassals to the dukes and duchesses in Versailles on the Potomac. EXACTLY why we fought the FIRST revolution.

thanks for the update on this.

Agreed these kind of officials need to hear from us and be told that they are helping us and we are happy .

My state has some great gun laws and actually some decent laws but that is thanks to a mostly republican legislature for some time.

Just hope we get Rubio in for Gov now

This and the repeal of the 17th Amendment would be a good start.

Um... what? Marco Rubio is running for the US Senate seat being vacated by Mel Martinez. He's not running for FL Governor. He is, however, running against the current FL Governor Charlie Crist for the US Senate seat, as Crist announced he would not seek re-election for the governorship (because he won't get re-elected.)
