We all loved Sarah. She rescued the sinking McCain campaign, said all the right things and holds pretty much the same positions of most FReepers.
They all love Obama. He rescued the sinking DNC, said all the right things and holds pretty much the same positions of most liberals.
Dems, liberals and the MSM are condemned for their all consuming adoration, virtual blindness to any mistakes or faults and slobbering worship of the man. Yet when the same thing happens to Palin it turns into a virtue.
Sarah was a real coup for conservatives. But when she announced her resignation many of us saw this for what it was, a deal breaker for a Presidential campaign. Oh she might run in '12 and she might even win the nomination. But she will not be able to shake the black mark of being labeled a "quitter" by her opponent and the MSM and it is very unlikely she will be able to garner the votes among right leaning dems and independents needed to win the general election.
Sarah decided to give up the hardship of public service. Hers was much harder than most, her opponents and the MSM were relentless in their vicious attacks and persecution. Instead she decided to go for the gold, writing books, the lucrative speakers circuit, not having to answer to a hostile critics and media.
I don't blame her, I think she did what was best for herself and family so I hold no animosity for it. But let's not deceive ourselves. She effectively has taken herself out of the game, a game in which we all were invested heavily in her political future. We NEEDED Sarah to lead a conservative revolution and anyone who thinks she can do it from the sidelines, the speakers circuit, is fooling themselves, just look at Newt. Sarah wnet for Sarah and we were kicked to the curb.
All I'm wondering is if the Palin cheering section, the one that praises every move, every decision whether it's good or bad, the ones that believe she can do no wrong, the ones who look to Sarah as a second coming of some sort, can you please take off the blinders for one second and see reality of the situation?
I ask this because I see these blind followers possibly leading us down a road to failure in '12. Let Sarah be, let her speak, write books, continue saying all the right things, make lots of money and establish some peace in her private life. She, of all, knows her decision has taken her out of the presidential ball game and she is good with it (if she doesn't then she does not have the political savvy to earn our support).
But quit with the relentless, vicious, nasty and foul attacks on your fellow FReepers who have taken the blinders off and made peace with what this all means. You're not doing Sarah any good and of she read some of things that are being written here I have a feeling she'd be the first to blush and ask it to stop.
Sarah will support conservative Democrats. If she finds any.
I’ll admit that I’m a huge Palin fan, but I also appreciate some people giving constructive criticism. We all know that the MSM will try to take her out, but if we can discuss actions and words in a civilized manner, we will be able to counter libs.
It sounds a lot like the way Obama supporters acted during the election.
I don’t worship Palin.
I would drop my support for her like a rock, if I saw that she really wasn’t a conservative.
I am excited and energized by her, or anyone; that I see as capable of leading our nation back to the principals it was founded on.
Some of those principals being; individual freedom from government oppression, freedom to have self determination, economic freedom, religious freedom, freedom from government, a market based economy, etc...
Those principals excite me much more than any candidate or political party.
The Founding Fathers had it right. They knew what was important. Most people today do not. The Founders would make much better leaders today (if it were possible to magically bring them here from 200+ years ago) than 99.99% of Americans. Probably even better than Sarah Palin.
odumbo is a crook Palin is not
Sarah is right. Bambi is a marxist.
1) Palin has real accomplishments in reforming government and cutting costs.
2) She is not running for president, so why worry about that.
3) There is no one else out there right now who is willing or able to lead the way to change government. Over the next few years, Palin is going to be the leader to focus the energy of the middle class that foots the bill and has been screwed over by both parties. She doesn’t have to be in office to do that.
4) We will be able to gage her effectiveness in the coming election cycle. If she does well she could consider running herself after that. This is rational, not deity worship. Anyone who wants to kill her off now is afraid that she WILL be effective.
5) “If you’ve got a better man, send him up.” I see a lot of Palin bashing on FR, but no one willing to offer up a better choice. Name names and we can debate the alternatives. Who is your political leader with a proven record of reigning in government, with national standing, and who can raise money and fill the seats. Unless you’ve got an alternative, something beats nothing every time.
This whole thread smells like a ‘come and attack me Palin supporters. See how you are?’ setup.
That sounds rather Obama-esque or Clintonian.

This is not something you telegraph. When the time comes you just do it. Then you justify it based on the qualifications of the person.
She should have known the media would play games with this. It’s not going to help her. Once again she is doing something that will reflect negatively on her.
IMO, her support would be the kiss of death for any Democrat candidate. While some Democrats undoubtedly like her, I think it’s safe to say the majority of them don’t. What happens when they stay home? And then what happens to her credibility? The Democrats who voted for the person she supported would feel betrayed when that person lost.
And how is it going to look when she campaigns against Republicans? Is that going to win over still more Republicans?
Yup.
Couldn't have said it more clearly myself.
As to the larger topic, I do not worship any mortal person. I don't want to shock anyone here, but Sarah is not perfect. As long as the criticism is well meaning, I have no problem with it, whether I agree with it or not.
1. Who cares what the MSM label her? They labeled Bush everything negative under the sun and he won two terms.
2. The real role of the MSM label-mongers is to confuse the weak minded or the apathetic, and they're pretty effective at that. Otherwise, liberals would be something we once heard of but can't remember what they were.
2. Palin’s conservatism is real, unlike Bush's. MSM Labels don't phase me. But her endorsement of Rick Perry here in Texas is pretty confusing.
When the best you can say for Palin is that she’s better than Obama (which seems to be the usual response anytime someone brings up her questionably adequate experience), you do her no favors.
The adulation of Obama was based, in large part, on the notion that HE was going to solve the problems faced by people. HE was going to pay their mortgage - HE was going to lower gas prices - HE was going to pay for their healthcare. It wasn't so much that people agreed with his specific proposals, other than HE was going to take care of them.
The enthusiasm for Palin, on the other hand, is based in large part on her stand on issues. She's NOT going to pay my mortgage, but she does favor the free-market. She's NOT going to lower my gas prices, but she does favor drill here/drill now. She's NOT going to pay for my healthcare, but she's is going to make sure we don't have nationalized care.
Big distinction between the candidate as savior and the candidate as a philisophically-based leader.
here here ...one of Bob’s more transparent vanities isn’t it?
