Washington Times Has Now Updated Title from "EXCLUSIVE: Palin to stump for conservative Democrats"
Washington Times ^ | July 12, 2009 | Ralph Z. Hallow

ANCHORAGE, Alaska | Brushing aside the criticisms of pundits and politicos, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said she plans to jump immediately back into the national political fray — stumping for conservative issues and even Democrats — after she prematurely vacates her elected post at month's end.

The former Republican vice-presidential nominee and heroine to much of the GOP's base said in an interview she views the electorate as embattled and fatigued by nonstop partisanship, and she is eager to campaign for Republicans, independents and even Democrats who share her values on limited government, strong defense and "energy independence."

"I will go around the country on behalf of candidates who believe in the right things, regardless of their party label or affiliation," she said over lunch in her downtown office, 40 miles from her now-famous hometown of Wasilla — population 7,000 — where she began her political career.

As Bob J stated earlier in the thread, you may get one vote here and there from these 40, but they are going to vote against you most of the rest of the time. These guys up for re-election were addressed around the time this bill came up for a vote. Some of them were up for election, so the Republicans who crossed sides were giving them cover so they could vote against it. How many of these forty didn’t actually want it to pass.

Are we now going to help get them re-elected? Ouch!

And Gillebrand did some fancy flip-flopping after she was appointed. Notably on gun rights. Whatever her rating was, it should be much lower in reality.

She looks like she is willing to abandon her principles for another speaking fee.

The GOP abandoned it’s principles a long time ago. Reagan would be rolling over in his grave if he knew what has happened to his beloved party, and if you really believe that Sarah only cares about making money then you don’t know her at all

Checked it out—it says she’ll stump for them. That means campaign for them. Sorry. It’s wrong.

Do they EVER vote against the Party of Death? EVER?

They vote against on the issue(s), but for on the leadership, and many "procedural" matters.

I agree. I would also rather see someone who stood for conservative principles supported. A lot of liberals run under the Republican banner, and I hope this is her way of putting them on notice that she will NOT campaign for liberals, no matter what party they belong to (the converse of supporting conservatives no matter what party they belong to.) I am glad she will not choose party over principle. Campaigning for our 2 esteemed senators from Maine is worse than campainging for liberal dems - at least liberal dems are honest about who they are.

My opinion, she is saying she is done with this Republican party. She will support anyone and I mean ANYONE who shares her views on smaller government, etc. She is sending a message to the Republican party that they better clean up their act. I think we can all agree that the Republican party is broken, there is no real leader, everyone is all over the place. I think she was making a very blanket statement, saying “Yeah I am willing to stump for a Conservative Democrat, if I can find one” then she doesn’t find one and she can say “Oh well at least I tried”

Notice how Palin is asking Democrats to join her, rather than her “reaching out” to them.

Yes, I think that is her point.

And since there are no Democrats in Congress that meet her standard of "limited government, strong defense and energy independence" she will have made her point without actually supporting any of the leftist trash that are now Democrats in Congress.

Do I hear the faint whispers of a Third Party in the snow-capped distance?

You don't need a third party if you can subvert one or the other.

Defeating RINOs and promoting DINOs can advance conservatism greatly. That's Palin's strategy.

Some people are really attached to labels. A co-worker of mine, a self proclaimed 'conservative / libertarian', descends from union DNA, and votes Democrat no matter what the candidate believes in. He'd be thrilled to vote for a pro-gun, pro-life, pro-military and lower taxes Democrat, and so would his entire family.

May as well subvert and neutralize the brand names, since getting people to think and act for themselves is considerably harder. A new party would require a lot of new thinking on the part of people who clearly aren't inclined to do so.

All Palin did was ask Democrats to join her. She’s not going to change for them. If they don’t join her, that’s their loss, not hers.

I was just reading the comments to the Noonan article at WSJ and it hit me what Palin is offering to do. She is saying that she will work for a conservative Democrat who goes up against any RINO, who has been bashing her.

She’s sending a not-so-subtle message to the Republican party establishment. It goes something like this:

“If you continue to favor Vichy Republicans (like Crist) at the expense of conservatives (like Rubio), you will have lost the base. Continue to ignore the grassroots at your own peril. They are already angry with you, and if you do not show them some love, you will have lost them, possibly forever.”

But that’s JMO.

As for the rest of the article, it’s standard drive-by media fare. Most Palin supporters will get as far as the fish wrapper’s use of the phrase “the polarizing Alaskan” and stop reading right there.

The drive by media, even the supposed more “conservative” outlets such as The Washington Times and Fox News, doesn’t get it, except for a few lonely voices in the midst of their wilderness - like Glenn Beck. The center-right media elite are as divorced from the grassroots as is the GOP hierarchy.

it’s like me saying I will support a conservative democrat, find me one, which no one will

I've been asking posters to name one for over two hundred posts, no names so far. Big platitudes about voting for "blue dogs" or "conservative democrats", unfortunately there don't appear to be any.

I really think you’re missing the point of what she’s doing; she is opening the door to VOTING democrats to cross over and vote for a conservative. This really has nothing to do with backing candidates because there really aren’t that many, as you said. And if there were any THEY would have to come over to our side, not the other way around. And certainly not like what McLame does when he ‘crosses the aisle’...he does it to AGREE with the libtards.

This is a move to let the dem voters see the walls are crumbling and it’s okay to vote for someone other than a D in the future, IMVHO.

EEE, how in the hell did McCain, of all people, have the smarts to bring Sarah out of ALaska and into our homes down in in the lower 40? God Bless John McCain for this.

I am a conservative great grandmother and I support Sarah 100%. I am tired of holding my nose and voting for the lesser of 2 evils. I voted for McCain only because Sarah was on the ticket. I had planned to write in a fictional character.
