L'AQUILA, ITALY -- In a meeting this morning with the leaders of Egypt, Algeria, Senegal, Nigeria, Libya and Ethiopia, President Obama spoke about his personal connections to both Africa and poverty, and according to a top White House aide, "you could have heard a pin drop."
As the president put it, Froman went on, "his cousin in Kenya cant find a job without paying a bribe, and thats not the fault of the G-8. And when companies cant operate without paying, in some parts of Africa, without paying the 25 percent fee off the top in bribes, thats not colonialism."
It's important, the president told the African leaders, that development programs are implemented so they "reach people who really need them, that the assistance actually gets to the farmers and the farmers benefit from this. That was the point he made. You could have heard a pin drop in the room. Several following speakers noting that they thought it was a very moving remark and thanked him for sharing his personal story with them.

You pay a bribe in America to.
Damn...They copied us....Folks around here paid their Ward leaders on a regular basis for GOVERNMENT jobs...
Hey, Obama, it would be the same way here, if we weren’t pushing back against your “plans” for us, you hypocritical
weasel.
Raila Odinga is the Kenyan leader who tried (and failed) to steal the election, right? Odinga calls himself Obama’s cousin (I’m not sure he really is). Is Obama talking about Odinga?
Where’s the birth certificate? Your genes are showing!
Institutional and culturally accepted corruption is what holds back the vast potential in so many third world countries. I cannot tolerate almost anything President Obama has done, but I applaud him for embarassing these African leaders on the world stage with these words.
Sounds just like Chicago.
Must work for a John Murtha subsidiary!
What about your brother..Barry??? Have you even gotten him a “Hut Sweet Hut” sign?? Or thrown him a few bucks......Take care of your own family first before you come try and take care of mine.
Funny, the first q at the presser is just about this statement. His clarification is all gobbly gook.
How is that different from having to join a union?
it’s called corruption......it’s blacks doing it to blacks...did you know Bambi that blacks captured blacks and sold them as slaves?
Isn’t that outrageous?
That was my thought, as well.
But, to a certain extent, we already have it here.
If you are in an industry/union that donates heavily to ‘rats, you’ll get special favors in the law.
I'm shocked....once again...and the "O" is on TV again this morning....
I hate to “weasel” on this myself, but I’ll credit another FReeper with the question “can you name one black politician in any position of power from mayor up that isn’t corrupt?”
moral of the story: Kenyan's are lousy at governing. same problem here.
