Palin's Support Rises Among Republicans

Sarah Palin’s decision to resign as governor of Alaska lifted her standing among Republicans, according to a USA Today/Gallup Poll.

A USA Today story about the poll says, “Republicans are somewhat inclined to see her more favorably” in light of her announcement Friday. But neither that story nor one on Gallup’s web site gives precise numbers.

Seven out 10 respondents in the poll, conducted Monday, say their views about Palin weren’t influenced by her departure as governor.

Of those who were affected by the move, Democrats view Palin less favorably by a 4-to-1 margin and independents by a 2-to-1 ratio.

Two-thirds of Republicans support the idea of Palin as a major national political figure in the future, the poll says. Three-fourths of Democrats oppose that idea, as do 55 percent of independents.

As for a possible presidential campaign, 72 percent of Republicans say they would likely vote for her, compared to 44 percent of independents and 17 percent of Democrats.(continued)

Maybe Sarah Palin is not running directly for the nomination to be the candidate of the Republican party for President in 2012. First, she has to determine if there IS a Republican party worthy of the effort, and she will be out at the grassroots working on the state and local levels, building the suport from the ground up. No more “astroturf” candidates, like McCain, who was essentially nominated by “crossover” votes, phony Republicans who registered in the primaries to vote AGAINST smarter, better, more consistent representatives of the Republican principles.

Once she knows the terrain for the primary, then build a Team Sarah with the determination to not only win the nomination, but steer true and win the office of the Presidency. Nobody knows for sure that conservative principles could win the Oval Office, because nobody has tried to run on them since 1984. THAT was an overwhelming vote of confidence.

Sarah Palin is not Ronaldus Magnus, we do not expect her to be. But she is probably a younger version of Lady Thatcher.

And that is a good thing.

...call me crazy but i want a potus who can name 2 supreme court cases off the top of their head...

OK, "you're crazy". I want a POTUS who can name appropriate Justices, when vacancies appear on the court.

“Plus....I hope she has bodyguards 24/7....there are people that hate her enough to kill her.”

Agreed. And they might also go after her family.

The Palins need our prayer for continued safety.

Margaret Thatcher voted to legalize abortion. So there’s improvement with Sarah.

Sarah needs to find a guy or gal with credentials who can mentor her without trying to stuff her full of useless facts. Wonder if Victor Hansen would take on the job. But anyone one who is simpatico.

The party needs to start getting its act together now for 2010 and 2012 and support a real conservative this time and stop apologising for it, i think the country is crying out for one. Not something that acts like one but fails the smell test.

Obama is going to drive his administrations policies so far to the left, we’ll need a strong personality to drag it right back the other way.

Yes, Bolton and Palin would make a great team.

Tons of special interest groups would be apoplectic, but it’s time real America got someone they would love to vote for.

The Party has been divided like this forever, or at least since the 1976 election. Gerald Ford—nice old Jerry /sarc—nursed a hatred for Reagan and many like him sought to cut Conservatives out of the loop.

I think that a review of Romney’s Presidential run last year is a good comparison to to what Palin said.

Like how many minutes was the Governor in his home state of Massachusetts versus how many months was he campaigning?
