WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee may have trouble keeping the promise she made at Michael Jackson's public memorial for a House resolution that "forever" honors the late pop star.
Jackson Lee, a Texas Democrat, took the stage Tuesday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and hoisted a framed copy of the resolution, embossed with a gold seal. The measure will be debated on the House floor, she said.
For that framed, embossed resolution to be completely legit, it must first get past some opposition.
Rep. Peter King, a New York Republican who called Jackson a "pervert, child molester, pedophile" in a video he posted on YouTube this week, vowed Tuesday to do "whatever I have to do" to oppose honoring Jackson.

I respectfully disagree. Deifying people such as Michael Jackson degrades our society. He may or may not have been a talented performer, but in his personal life he was a freak. I am sick of what our American culture is becoming. Ads on television advertising web sites where you can cheat on your spouse, the celebration of queers (go ahead, call me a homophobe, I wear it as badge of honor), the total lack of respect for human life. If America is going to become a society where the outlandish and immoral is celebrated and encouraged, and the good and decent is to be ridiculed, then I really don’t give a good damn whether cap and trade or national healthcare passes or not. Because we will end up on the rubbish heap of history - and if we continue down this path we are on - that is where we belong.-—JM

No, not directly like Cap'n Tax, VAT, Obamacare.
It does however send a rotten message and cheapens an already cheapened Congress when a celebrity freak receives governmental honors. I think we should fight the attack on our society and morals whenever we can.
This is going to turn into another Federal Holiday, and we have no one in Washington right now that will have the guts to stand in the way of it happening. Our Fed, State, County, City and Township governments along with almost all of the Nation's private employers will have to pay for everyone to have another day off...
