The revolution will not be televised: it's been blinking along on a giant bakery sign in St. Louis, Mo., instead.
Fed up with his congressman's vote on a sweeping climate-change bill that passed the House of Representatives on Saturday, the proprietor of McArthur's Bakery took to his street sign and posted a clear message to all passersby:
"Russ Carnahan voted to ... close us and other ... small business."
David McArthur, vice president of the 52-year-old family operation, a Gateway City institution, is one of a growing number of business owners and taxpayers nationwide who are mobilizing against the so-called cap-and-trade bill, which would levy harsh fines on energy consumption that harms the environment.

Any baker really ought to oppose this horror. After all, it's CO2 that puts all those neat little bubbles in baked goods like breads and cakes.

But shouldn't bakers generate carbon credits because they are trapping CO2? and shouldn't diners require the credits because they are releasing same?

I imagine guys like this were too busy busting their asses trying to make a living and didn’t think their Congressman had the audacity to vote on a bill they hadn’t even read.
To: Buckeye McFrog
Then “Let them eat cake!” Didn’t someone famous once say that? We could benefit from the same results.

I wrote to Ike Skelton, laying out solid arguments for voting against C&T but the old fool voted for it anyway, saying he was protecting farmers from the EPA or some such rot.
Today, I posted a follow up letter, reiterating the job losses, higher gasoline and utilities this will cause. Like many in DC, Ike has never held a job outside of government and thus he believes he's part of the permanent ruling class. The only way a lot of these government bow wows will leave Washington is feet first.

In the days since McArthur flashed his feelings on the bakery's electronic billboard, he was contacted by Carnahan's office and agreed to take the message down. WHY?
To: CaptainAmiigaf
Or not. The Marie Antoinette quote is probably apocryphal. But “You can't let a crisis like this go to waste.” is not.

The only way a lot of these government bow wows will leave Washington is feet first. I'm betting that that's going to start happening pretty soon in larger numbers than anyone expects.

I wonder how much a billboard will cost for each congressional district with the saying, “Congressman _____ wants to close our businesses.”

The Maytag repairman just got a little lonelier. In fact in five years he might just find himself in solitary confinement.
