Senator Jim DeMint on Thursday defended the toppling of Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, said that now is still the rule of law in the Central American country.

Zelaya was overthrown by a military coup, after ignoring an order from the supreme court, seeking to avoid a constitutional reform, which according to many Hondurans, was to allow for re-election.

DeMint, a conservative Republican, Zelaya described as a "dictator in the style of Chavez," referring to Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez.

The senator said in a statement that Zelaya made fun of the constitutional authority of Congress and the Honduran Supreme Court.

He added that the call of President Barack Obama to restore the post to Zelaya represents' an affront to the people of Honduras. "

On Wednesday, Roberto Micheletti, the president of Honduras, Chavez blamed the crisis facing Honduras.

Chavez said Thursday night that does not intervene in the internal affairs of Honduras, but cooperate for a return to stability after the coup.

The Cuban-American Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said "the Honduran military respected the Constitution to remove from power the president Jose Manuel Zelaya.

Congress decided, unanimously, "unlikely" to Zelaya "for his apparent misconduct" and for "repeated violations of the Constitution and the law and disregard of orders and judgments of the institutions," he said.

He told Radio Martí that the military forces of Honduras' respected the Constitution to remove from power Zelaya.

"It's the right decision. We have no details yet, but everything indicates that the actions were taken under the Constitution. Zelaya wanted to do what was beyond the Constitution (...) Hopefully this is a brake on the actions of other governments that want to act in an undemocratic manner, "he said.

He expressed "growing concern" about Obama's policy of support in the crisis to Zelaya of Honduras, a lawmaker who felt as close to Hugo Chávez of populism.
