The Huffington Post issued an apology Friday evening for an article about the resignation of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin posted at their website entitled, Palin Will Run In '12 On More Retardation Platform, written by HuffPo writer Erik Sean Nelson.
The Daily Dose published an e-mail apology from Mario Ruiz of HuffPo:
Due to an editorial lapse, Erik Sean Nelsons post on Sarah Palin bypassed the normal vetting process and appeared on HuffPost but was never featured anywhere on the site. Even though satiric works are generally given greater latitude, Nelsons post falls outside of HuffPosts editorial guidelines. As such, if not for the error, it would not have been approved for publication, and was removed from the site as soon as our editors became aware of it. We sincerely regret the error and any offense it might have caused.
Ruiz's statement the article was pulled by the editors contradicts claims by the author of the piece that he pulled the article within minutes of posting it:
Within 10 minutes of the post, I received 2 emails from special needs families, saw that it was hurtful and I pulled the post immediately. I apologize for offending you.
Since you wanted to know what I was going for, it was that Palin said that she was leaving the governorship because of jokes. What kind of President would she make if she couldnt handle some bad jokes? I used her words to create a farcical situation where offensive jokes were meant to be ironic. I saw immediately that it was wrong and apologized on the site.
Tommy Christopher, the author of the Daily Dose claims his intervention on Twitter alerted HuffPo to the offensive article:
Also important is that, within 10 minutes of tweeting HuffPo editor Jason Linkins, the piece was pulled (although it took longer for it to completely disappear). On a holiday weekend, no less, thats an amazing turnaround.
Of course, the left only cared about the article because Free Republic had brought public awareness to the nasty piece of work minutes after the article was published.
From Free Republic the outrage went viral leading to HuffPo pulling the article to ward off a PR disaster. Of course, there was no direct apology to the Palin family nor was the author fired, so HuffPo's apology appears to be a PR move and not sincere.
“Or...perhaps this was clarified in post 9.”
Post 9 appeared while I was on the reply screen composing my message.
Oh, well, at least it gave me an opportunity to bad-mouth the demonrats.

I will step in on this:
Hey Nelson: How about a charity boxing match with an over 50 out of shape, ex semi pro hockey player? Only 2 -3 min rounds and proceeds go to charity.
DU KOS AND HUFF po PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PICK THIS UP AND FORWARD TO ERIC SEAN NELSON OR WHATEVER HE CALLS HIMSELF.
TRAINING STARTS TOMORROW
Lets go.....
Enough is enough...
“Its like G. Gordon Liddy sez - the key is in not caring.”
It’s going to take more than not caring to drive these moral lepers out of public life.
Apology? So what? These people are walking Obama turds. Piss on them.
You nailed him!
These people are absolute scumbags.
I thought Obama's reasons for running for President were weak but I didn't call his children vile names like these jerks are doing to Sarah!
If they had any morals, AT ALL, they would just SHUT UP about her children!
Just like the anointed one! Arrogant A-holes.
Find a different word. That word is NOT acceptable.
F’ em...
Sarah Jane Moore.
The left HATES Sarah Palin — she is a real feminist. She is a successful feminist in the non-corrupted sense of the word, meaning abortion is not the central issue of her feminism.
She occupies the moral high ground, she’s married to a masculine man, and, to make matters even worse for them, she’s good-looking.
She rips the facade off the currently accepted leftist version of feminism, just by being herself.
Thank you for all you do here.
Umm, Erik? Most of us who are civilized and educated don't use that word anymore. Most of us have evolved since junior high school. The USE of that offensive and ugly word simply PROVES that you are not sincere about any apology. As the father of a severely developmentally disabled young man, I dare you, Erik, to come and call my son that word. You'd be pissing blood for a week.
Isn't it beyond sad that "IF" is the optimum word here?
What hypocrites!
Touche!

Huffington Post gives in to Free Republic over Palin article
Fri Jul 03, 2009 at 09:59:34 PM PDT
On this one article it seems like Huffington Post pulled the piece because of Free Republic.
Palin Will Run in '12 on More Retardation Platform
Freepers state that they forced Huffington Post to take down and article by Erik Sean Nelson titled "Palin Will Run in '12 on More Retardation Platform"
Now I did not see the article but when you go to the link for the article, there is no article at all.
