Palin's Dereliction of Duty
The American Spectator ^ | July 3, 2009 | Quin Hillyer

Posted on 07/03/2009 2:15:42 PM PDT by EveningStar

Knowing that many, many conservatives will absolutely dump on me for saying this, I can't help myself: Sarah Palin's resignation is an appalling dereliction of duty and a highly cynical move to set herself up for a presidental run for which she is manifestly unqualified.

I don’t WANT a “maverick”. I want a thoroughly COMMITTED TRUE CONSERVATIVE like Reagan. Reagan wouldn’t have quit being Governor of California, no matter what the liberals threw at him.

Until Sarah consistently starts to call herself a conservative, not a “maverick” and behave like one (resigning before your term is up is quitting, not conservatism) I am simply not going to be 100% in her corner.

Why can’t a maverick be a truly committed conservative? She’s a maverick in the sense that she doesn’t do everything the GOP tells her to do...like drop out of politics so Romney can win.

Disagree. She can now concentrate on the things she needs to make an effective run, and can also spend more time campaigning for conservatives in other constituencies.

I didn’t say she wouldn’t but it would be a huge mistake. She’s now a less than full term former Governor who quit on her state. Good luck with that!

“Maverick” was a phrase the media used for Lowell Weicker. He voted against the GOP ninety percent of the time and called himself “the turd in the punchbowl,” during Reagan’s time.

There is history behind the term. And Leiberman beat Weicker after being endorsed by William F. Buckley Jr.

Hold your friends close; hold your enemies even closer.

The word has many connotations, not just the one we know. It is an animal that doesn’t follow the herd, as well as the term you know...

She's going to have to find a means to earn and repay a half a million dollars; Cannot allow it to go unpaid if she is to be allowed any credibility in the future.

I've skimmed through several hundred posts on this subject, and haven't noticed any reference to the trust fund set up to help defray her legal costs: http://www.alaskatrustfund.com/. She's taken a lot of flak for standing up for conservatism. It wouldn't take that much from each of the conservatives to cover most of that debt.

(”Don’t explain; your friends don’t need it; your enemies won’t believe it anyway.”—Sarah Palin) FWIW, though... Sara used it in her speech, that is an original quote by author Elbert Hubbard.

Thank you for that information. I'll just leave it as tagline for the rest of this thread, then get a new one.

This is her Jesus moment. Everyone will hate her for it, but future generations will look back and see it for what it really was.

Oh, I'm sure there is a good reason behind her decision. My guess is that she is signing a HUGE book deal which will give her a good platform to articulate her political and social philosophy and set up to run for POTUS in 2012.
At worst she will fail in her POTUS run, But she will be a multi-millionaire.

Grab your little sling shot, and choose your stones carefully, Sarah. Goliath awaits, and skepticism abounds about your abilities because you do not wear the armor of the kingmakers. In your case, you even lack the blessing of the “kings”.

I think her strategy is outstanding. Making this announcement on the 3rd of July, when all government offices are closed, Obama is on vacation at Camp David, and most media services, which lack in any credibility in fair and balanced reporting are floundering, she will capture all attention for 3 full days with no opposition. While the State Controlled Media will be tripping over each other on speculations, she and her family will have the time of their lives watching the Media Meltdown.

There simply is no NEED to call yourself a “maverick”. Being a true conservative is all that is needed.

If Sarah starts using the words conservative and conservative values consistently then I will start changing my mind about her.

That site has been taken down.

The more I hear, the more I’m inclined to believe that being picked as a presidential running mate was the worst thing that ever happened to her.

Why quote from a depraved gangster movie?

I can think of better books and movies to quote from.
