July 2009 sees nearly 6 months since George W Bush entered private life and as we have done in previously monthly threads I have collated photos from the month we are in from previous years.

Tonight I will post July 2001 and July 2002 photos and then over the next few days post 2003 and 2004 photos.

I have also found some photos from this June which I will also post in the next few days starting with one of them as the photo of the month.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

Thank you for all of your posts, snugs. The 8 GWB years were, indeed, a dose of sanity tucked in between the nightmare years of Clinton and now Obama.

Will we ever again have such an honorable president?

Snugs, I just love this photo of the President returning the salute of the Code Talkers. So much is expressed in that photo; one I don’t remember ever seeing before.

My goodness, Nolan Ryan has really aged. Except for the President’s hair color, he and Lady Laura don’t look a day older than the earliest pictures you posted.

We may not feel like celebrating today. We may be confused by yesterday's news and worried about what tomorrow will bring.

But there's one thing we can be certain of on this Independence Day:

God loves us, He is watching over us and no government--no matter how large or imposing it grows--will ever be able to replace Him.

Take care, be safe, and God bless you!

As long as we are on the right side of the dirt, it's a reason to celebrate. ;-)

I had forgotten about that. That was awesome.

Can you imagine Obama doing the same? Not in a million years. He may think he’s ghetto, but we all know he’s just wanna-be street in a suit, afraid he’d crinkle his Armani.

To Our Soldiers and President Bush, We Salute You

By Daniel Kite

The celebrations on the streets of Iraq yesterday mark a major milestone for Iraq. They celebrated their victory. It is now time for us to do the same.

We owe a debt of gratitude to President Bush and all of our armed forces for courageously pursuing victory. You snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

To bad our President can not utter words of victory. Our country has spent vast sums and our soldiers have paid with blood. Here is our President’s reaction as reported in the NYT: Obama Quietly Marks Troop Withdrawal in Iraq

***

President Obama marked the withdrawal of American combat forces from Iraqi towns and cities with little fanfare on Tuesday, using a ceremony in the East Room of the White House to declare the day “an important milestone’’ even as he warned of “difficult days ahead.’’ Mr. Obama ran for office on a vigorous campaign of bringing an end to the Iraq war. But the withdrawal did not command its own presidential appearance; instead, Mr. Obama offered a brief and somewhat muted assessment of the day’s events at the outset of a ceremony intended to honor entrepreneurs who are committed to social justice.

***

Whether you were for or against this war, it needs to be said that we have achieved a great victory. If we do not declare it, no one else will. After all the effort and bloodshed, we need the world to understand that despite our setbacks, we persevered. We need to celebrate our achievements.

We owe a great debt of gratitude to our armed forces. Let us give them the thanks they deserve.
