Before President Obama could even field the first Internet question for a town hall forum in Virginia on Wednesday, the White House was forced to defend the event against criticism that questions would be staged.
"I think will be a representative sample of the issues in this debate that we're dealing with," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs explained in response to concern that the event would be tightly controlled.
Over the weekend, the White House Web site solicited Americans to submit questions for the town hall via social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. According to the site, hundreds of entries were received.

Of course its staged...
There will be puff-ball questions from ACORN members and party hacks.............
As Rush said, the WH ‘press’ is simply upset that a HuffPo blogger was brought in previously, and the everyone knows these things and all questions are staged.
SB ‘that’ not ‘the.’
He doesn’t pick his nose unless it’s been staged, sanitized and supportive of his communist agenda.
Everything with this empty suit teleprompter is staged like Potemkin Village.
It wasn’t staged. It was just “pre-planned”.
Obama may actually believe that it is not staged and that ordinary people will ask question like this:
Mr. President, do you believe that a national health care plan administered at the federal level will advance the cause of social justice, provide for a more equitable income distribution, improve relations between fraternal workers groups and increase the solidarity of the international workers movement worldwide?
Exatamundo bud. You may want to explain what “Potomkin” means for those who may not know. Fits like an OJ simpson glove.
And they actually think people believe the best questions will be selected and not just those supportive of BO's plans and ones that will be easy to answer (meaning the questions practically answer themselves). How is anyone to know that BO's handlers (his staff) are not the only ones whose questions are being accepted?
"I'm amazed at you people who call for openness and transparency," said veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas.
I'm amazed Thomas can even ask that question. How stupid is this woman? How stupid does she think everyone else is? If Bush was still Prez, everyone knows she would be the first one asking for "openness and transparency", and disparaging the (seeming) lack of it (according to her)!
The article goes on to quote someone from CBS (have they learned something from the Rather fiasco?) as questioning the question submitting screening process. Well, DUH!
Cracks in the BO verneer are starting to form chasms - YAY!
I am not sure when these staged news events really got started, but I would say it probably has it’s roots in the Clinton years. That’s when I first heard of it. There was no way Reagan/Bush would have been able to pull it off and that takes us back to 1980. I don’t know about Carter since I was so young, but I am sure that Nixon/Ford were never able to stage events. Anyone else have any other information about it? I imagine the precursor to the full out and out staged event was the “softball question” that is asked by any sympathetic “journalist” or person at the event. Once they indicated a willingness to be helpful to one point of view or another, the natural evolution is to just require the audience to submit questions in advance.

The Clintons staged everything. The press slurped it up.
“And they actually think people believe the best questions will be selected and not just those supportive of BO’s plans and ones that will be easy to answer (meaning the questions practically answer themselves).”
Like when they dumped on the EPA guy who disagreed with their lies.
“Hey buddy, shut up or be fired, your views are counter to our propaganda”
Bump.
Or unless the Teleprompter tells him to do it..............
