Limbaugh: Obama planning third term @ 4:21 pm by Eric Zimmermann

Rush Limbaugh stirred up some trouble today when he suggested Obama might have his sights on a third term:

You have to wonder if Obama is just trying to lay a foundation for not being a hypocrite when he tries to serve beyond 2016. I wouldn't be at all surprised if in the next number of years there is a move on the 22nd Amendment, which term limits the President of the United States. He may not do it that way, he may not openly try to change the Constitution. But there might be this movement in the country from his cult-like followers to support the notion that a democratically-elected leader who is loved and adored has carte blanc once elected. Just serve as long as he wants because the people demand it, because the people want it, because the people love it.

And I wouldn't put it past Obama to be plotting right now how to serve beyond 2016 and I think the way he's reacting to what's happening in Honduras - Look, they've got a constitution, they're a democratically-elected set of officials down there and you had a guy running the country, Mel Zelaya, who was just going to basically rip that country's democracy to shreds and the country moved in to stop in him from doing it and Obama sides with the guy who wanted to rip up the constitution. He sides with other dictators in the region. Regardless, I mean, one thing is clear here: Obama is nothing if not a hardcore liberal. Always, always more sympathetic, appearing to side with the bad guys on the world stage.

And I'll tell you folks, this business about running beyond 2016, you know, the thing that when you look at Obama's followers - and we've discussed it here - they are a cult-like bunch and their attachment to him is not political, it's not ideological, it is not issue-wise, it is cultish. It includes a wide percentage of minorities, by the way, who for different reasons, who will come to think that he simply cannot be replaced. Let him succeed with amnesty, for example, and all the illegal aliens who are instantly made citizens. He'll be too important. Just like right now he's too big to fail as far as the drive-bys are concerned, he's too important to be replaced. No one else can lead the nation, they will say. And they won't care a whit about the legalities that might be trampled. Half of the legalities if they don't even know about them because they haven't been properly educated. I think this situation in Honduras is very instructive. Anybody who thinks that he intends to just constitutionally go away in 2016 is nuts … These are people who seek power for reasons other than to serve. They seek to rule.

Coincidentally, Robert Gibbs was asked about this very matter during his Monday press briefing:

Q Does the President support New York Democrat Congressman Jose Serrano's House joint resolution number five? (Laughter.)

MR. GIBBS: You're going to find I tend to get it mixed up with House joint resolution four and six. So I'd have to, at the conclusion of our time together here today, Lester –

Q That's the repeal of the — wait a minute. It's the repeal of the 22nd Amendment. Does he support this — because Steny Hoyer in 2006 came out in favor of it — does he support the repeal of the 22nd Amendment or not, Robert?

MR. GIBBS: This is to serve more — this is for two terms? Is that the –

Q That's right.

MR. GIBBS: I think the President is firmly in support of an amendment that would limit his time in the presidency to eight years if he's given that awesome responsibility by the American people.

The action in Honduras brought up a question that I have wondered about for 35 years. If Nixon had been convicted during impeachment, and removed from office, but refused to leave the White House, who gives the order to have him forcibly removed? Ford would have become President at that time, but what if he didn’t make the order?

Obama’s refusal to back the peaceful transfer of power in Honduras (where the government appeared to operate exactly designed to remove a crooked and unlawful president) makes me wonder what his future plans are. And I’m not talking about 2016. I think just winning re-election will be a challenge if the Republicans field a decent ticket (a BIG if)....

IIRC, there is a constitutional safeguard concerning any amendment affecting the presidency: were the 22nd to be repealed, the lifting of term limits would not apply to the presidential incumbent at the time of its repeal, but only to his successor(s).

Any such safeguard would have to be part of the new amendment itself.

If the first 5 months of this administration is any indication, there won’t be any need for a silly old Constitution in 4 years let alone 8 years. It’s time to realize that this nation has slipped away and if we want any voice in the future we better find one real soon.

You do bring up a point about the Constitution not being just an agreement between the Federal Government and the People, It is also an agreement between the Federal Government and the States. Lincoln and FDR tried to erase that part of the Constitution, but just maybe enough of our 50 governors are literate enough to wake up and take back their rightful powers.

I didn’t necessarily say he would...I said that if he felt he could get away with it, he would. The man has no internalized sense of honor or respect for our traditions. If he felt violating the Constitution would serve his own goals and interests he would do so in a heartbeat.

Rush needs to take a break. Revoking the 22nd Amendment would need a two-thirds vote in both Houses and the ratification of three-fourths of the states. Not a chance of that happening.

No, all it would take is a hastily concocted referendum plus the boys at Acorn and presto: a third term for The Leader!

Up until the very day he left office, Clinton had Bruce Lindsey pouring over every aspect of constitutional law to allow him to stay in office. Other than declaring martial law, there was no other way and by that time, Monica Lewinsky had become a household name and soured the public on more of Bill Clinton. Obama has the same folks working for him that were around in the Clinton years and you can bet they are doing everything possible to keep their jobs forever. Obama will become our first Dear Leader Dictator, because of the people behind him.

I know the man is not very good at math (57 states? Cinco de cuatro?) but, really, someone should tell him that the second term comes before the third term.

That’s my point....their only limits are externally imposed. If they feel there will be no consequences, they will act as they please.

The country NEEDS a nuclear holocaust or some similar attack so horrifying that no man, woman, or child will ever forget it. Nothing short of this would wake up the idiot sheeple in this country.

The worst thing that could happen to us would also be the best thing.

Rush also brought up the birth certificate issue on three different off-hand remarks. Something big is about to come out which will make the whole country turn on the DNC and BHO crowd.

Obama probably doesn’t have the stamina to make it beyond 4 years. He’s never had to work 1% as hard before.

Hillary Clinton (and Bill’s) attempt at a third term of Co-presidency (and she had said he would serve if he asked) was unconstitutional.

hmmm
