WASHINGTON (AP) -- Unemployment rates rose in all the largest U.S. metropolitan areas for the fifth straight month in May.

The Labor Department says jobless rates in May rose from a year earlier in all 372 metropolitan area it tracks.

The unemployment rate in Kokomo, Ind., jumped to 18.8 percent, up 11.7 percentage points from a year ago, the largest increase of all metro areas. The second-highest jump occurred in Indiana's Elkhart-Goshen. Its rate jumped to 17.5 percent, up 11.4 percentage points from a year earlier.

Wait till you see June’s numbers.
The greatest ‘multiple’ (layoffs larger than 50 per employer) unemployment numbers ever.

The cities have the potential to become the equivalent of refugee camps, dependent upon humanitarian aid for people to survive.

In the big cities, there is no way for people to be self-sufficient. If the economy worsens, the cities will be ugly places.

I know things are slow almost everywhere, but I wonder how much this is exacerbated by people no longer willing to pick up and move to find work. It don’t matter how strong the recovery is, places like Detroit are never going to pick back up.

Whose graph is that? The blue and grey lines? Is that how they justified the Recovery Plan? Ha.

By the way, I heard on the radio that the US Transportation Dept is desperately seeking funds (about $20B) for road and bridge work. Seems they had a budget for this stuff but that budget is about exhausted. Now they have all of these "shovel-ready" jobs out there, but their existing budget is used up and they are hoping that Congres will pass legislation giving them about $20B to keep things going.

Uhhhhhhhhh -- what the heck is the government spending that $800B on?????????? It certainly doesn't seem to be availbale to fund jobs. Was it all just a gift to the bankers?

The graph is Obama’s February porkulus plan claiming passage of the bill would limit unemployment to 8%.

I would argue that most of the porkulus money is secretly being dispersed to Barry donor organizations, such as ACORN, etc., etc., etc. Additionally, I read an article and even heard it mentioned on FOXNews that the amount of porkulus spending has decreased as compared to the amount that was spent during the first 4 months of porkulus passage and spending, you know, to create those 100,000 jobs saved, blah, blah claimed by the White House--along the same lines as when the White House claimed they would create 600,000 jobs this summer. Do the math. ;-)

I’m shocked. Shocked I say. Obviously their estimates were off, but “imagine how bad things would have been without that giant liberal pork bill”.

Yes. And when they are asked about it, they say that they didn't realize just how bad Bush's last 3 months were. Jackasses all of'em.

what the heck is the government spending that $800B on??????????

http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=Mjg0M2YwZjk5Y2YwMzA4ZmI4OTVkNzIxNTMxYWQwYWY=

1. $1.5 million in “free” stimulus money for a new wastewater treatment plant results in higher utility costs for residents of Perkins, Oklahoma.

2. $1 billion for FutureGen in Mattoon, Illinois is the “biggest earmark of all time” for a power plant that may never work.

3. $15 million for “shovel-ready” repairs to little-used bridges in rural Wisconsin are given priority over widely used bridges that are structurally deficient.

4. $800,000 for little-used John Murtha Airport in Johnstown, Pennsylvania airport to repave a back-up runway; the ‘Airport for Nobody’ Has Already Received Tens of Millions in Taxpayer dollars.

5. $3.4 million for a wildlife “eco-passage” in Florida to take animals safely under a busy roadway.

6. Nevada non-profit gets $2 million weatherization contract after recently being fired for same type of work.

7. $1.15 million for installation of a new guard rail for the non-existent Optima Lake in Oklahoma.

8. Nearly $10 million to renovate an abandoned train station that hasn’t been used in 30 years.

9. 10,000 dead people get stimulus checks, but the Social Security Administration blames a tough deadline.

10. Town of Union, New York, encouraged to spend a $578,000 grant it did not request for a homelessness problem it claims it does not have.
