Chimp Eden
If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us. Numbers 14:8
Eugene Cussons rescues chimpanzees. Orphaned by those in the business of bush-meat trade and taken from the jungle as infants, many have lived their entire lives confined in a space smaller than a prison cell. When Cussons arrives to take them to the game reserve he calls Chimp Eden, he often finds them hostile and untrusting.
These chimps dont realize that I am one of the good guys, Cussons says. When he tries to put them into a smaller crate for the trip to their new home, they put up quite a fight. They dont know that Im going to take them back to Chimp Eden and give them a life so much better.
On a much grander scale, Gods offer to liberate us from the slavery of sin is often met with resistance. When He rescued the children of Israel from Egypt, God took them through difficult places that caused them to doubt His good intentions. Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt? they cried (Num. 14:3).
On our journey of faith, there are times when the freedom of sin that we left behind is more appealing than the restrictions of faith that lie ahead. We must trust the protective boundaries found in Gods Word as the only way to get to the place of ultimate freedom.
Sins lure may look like freedom
But in its grip were bound;
Its when were bound to Jesus
Real freedom will be found. D. De Haan

I remember working in the fields with 100+ temps, picking cotton (Do I get reps for that?), corn, working with cattle, sheep, hogs, picking the garden, etc.

Good evening, Connie!
Good evening, all!
Summers were mostly spent on our block with our friends. There were lots of kids of all ages on our block (and on all the others) back then. Open hydrants and sprinklers. Wiffleball or handball in the street (not a busy one) or softball in the schoolyard (we could climb the fence).
There were trips to Brighton Beach (which required switching trains by the aquarium -- you had to go down one flight of stairs and then up TWO).
Later there was Happy Day Camp (with a smiley face logo) with board games and trips to the Sunset Park pool and bunches of other places.

MY CHILDHOOD SUMMER MEMORIES:
l) Lying in the grass watching the clouds float past...and
seeing wonderful things in them. Horses, dogs, mountains....
2) Having a cherry popcicle from the ice-cream boy who was on
a bike riding through the neighborhood.
3) Running through the sprinkler as mom watered the grass.
4) Going swimming and staying all day and not worrying about
my (ugh) freckles.
5) Tying a string to a big green June bug and letting him
fly round and round.
6) Playing hide and seek at night and not worrying about
having to come in early.
7) Going for two weeks to my grandparents’ home out in the
country and not wearing a pair of shoes the whole time except
to church. Coming home brown and fit.
8) Watermelon, home-made ice cream, hot dogs, huge dill pickles, snow cones.
9) Going to the creek with my grandmother and fishing
with a cane pole and worms. EEK!
10) Vacation Bible School
11) Going to the park for a picnic...or just having our
lunch sammiches on a quilt pallet in the back yard under a
tree.
12) Going to bed late and getting up late.
13) Making a tent out of said quilt in the back yard, making plans to sleep out and then wanting to come in when
it was late and we’d read all the new comics and told all
the ghost stories.
14) NO SCHOOL!

When I was young the watermelon parties at the end of wheat harvest were a treasure with cousins.
Those same cousins and I would in our 20’s meet in a nearby dry playa where we could spend the hot nights drinking our favorite cool offs and watching the stars with absolutely no people lights on the horizon. Great times and great rockin memories. Watching the Peleides meteor showers to Yes or ELO or ??? 8^)
Thanks for the memory trigger here Connie and Sandrat

Boating, camping, fishing and skiing on a lake with all the aunts, uncles and cousins for a week. We also lived just a few blocks from a river and park, so we were there until dark almost every night. I grew up in Modesto, CA (think American Graffiti) and we always had the canals to play in also.

Evening, AZ, Kathy.
My fondest summer memories are somewhat collective, rather than individual — simply the travels my father took us too. We saw much of the country. Dad’s motto: See America first. He was definitely a fun guy.
