Within minutes, six-year-old Rubjit Thindal went from happily chatting in the back seat of the car to collapsing and dying in her father's arms.

"If we had known it was so serious, we would have called 911,'' Kuldip Thindal, Rubjit's distraught mother, said in Punjabi yesterday. "She just had a stomach ache -- she wasn't even crying.''

Rubjit was pronounced dead at hospital barely 24 hours after showing signs of a fever. Later, doctors told her parents she had the H1N1 influenza virus. She is believed to be the youngest person in Canada with the virus to have died.

Thank you for your encouragment, DvdMom. It is a very painful thing to do.

There is an interview with the family you just posted here: http://homepage.mac.com/monotreme1/PFI_Main_New_Index.html

This poor couple is SO distraught that they didn’t know how deadly swine flu could be. The mom feels she should have demanded the Tamiflu. Anyway, the parents did the interview to make sure other parents were aware. That is what I want to do too.

The doctor was following the CDC guidelines in this case - those guidelines are going to cost a lot of lives. Doctors need to do what they know is right, not just blindly follow what the government tells them.

I don’t know who you are but where am I pushing for a vaccine???

Ideally, I think the schools should be shut down until a SAFE vaccine is given.

I would say that I think you are a hypocrite, but it's worse than that, because I don't believe you believe your own words.

There is no talk of "another" vaccine. The H1N1 vaccine is touted as perfectly safe. AND it is protected by federal law from suit even if it kills millions.

What YOU are saying is what the government is saying all along. Don’t mind these deaths. Look the other way. People die all the time.

What a perverted statement. The government - and you - are whipping up hysteria, "predicting" millions of H1N1 deaths despite data indicating it is not even as powerful as the seasonal flu. And to anyone who speaks sanity, to anyone who says, hey, why is this one vaccine indemnified by federal law? Why did Massachussetts just give cops the power to vaccinate at during traffic stops at the point of a gun, and drag people off to isolation camps who resist? Yet when these issues are raised, people like YOU accuse them of insensitivity to needless deaths. Your accusations are outrageous insults to obvious truths.

In fact, the whole point of all your "sensitive caring" is to support mandatory vaccination, which you damn well know will be done with the current, dangerous, untested, indemnified H1N1 vaccines.

The story below is about a healthy child dying from H1N1

The story below is inflammatory. Apparantly healthy children get sick and die all the time. The mother's proclaim the same health, there are the same tears, the children look just as cute, and the tragedy is just the same.

The only thing you are pushing for is acceptance of the untested, dangerous, indemnified H1N1 vaccine and the draconian laws being created to force it's application, even by cops. That's your whole goal.

I know people who are in trials for the vaccine . I know many people who are against the vaccine . I have never stated a pro- or anti vaccine stance on Free Republic . I posted many article both for , & against the vaccine . Check my posting history .

Yes it is touted as safe, but that does not believe I think it is safe! Do you believe everything this administration is telling you???

I think it needs to be tested over a long period of time, like other new meds, and not fast-tracked. If several months go by and folks who have had the vaccine are doing ok, and the swine flu is still bad, then we will consider it.

I am not whipping up hysteria. I am saying that healthy children are dying of this. Most folks think this flu is mild and have no idea that healthy children can die of this.

Yes, selectively true, chosen and presented for it's inflammatory effect, while any other truths that would put it in perspective were left unmentioned.

Knock it off, you know I'm arguing against it.

I am not whipping up hysteria. I am saying that healthy children are dying of this. Most folks think this flu is mild and have no idea that healthy children can die of this.

LOL - that's hysteria right there. Healthy children are dying of many things that you aren't panting about. But you aren't ranting about getting different flu vaccines made, or doing thorough testing. You're just leaving that topic silent, because you know the result of your hysteria will be to push the current, dangerous vaccine.

Knock it off, you know I'm arguing against it. I am too, what is your problem? We agree on this!!! You're just leaving that topic silent... No I'm not! Reread my post - did you see the part where I said I was concerned it had unsafe ingredients and and wasn't tested and was fast-tracked? How about my post #1547 from YESTERDAY before you decided I was some vaccine propagandist: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2278371/posts

One of the problems with reading data, is trying to take all the myriad of germane factors into consideration.

The H1N1 influenza has been broiling since March. It’s been on a slow burn, and it was known this fall would see a widespread outbreak. I’m not convinced this outbreak is something that wouldn’t have happened with any other influenza that broke into the mainstream in March and percolated until October.

So where are we? Is this going to be a year when the pandemic finally hits? I’m not convinced of it.

We have bits and pieces of data, and we have lay people trying to make heads or tails of it based on their lay expertise.

We generally see 30,000 people die of influenza each winter. This year may in fact wind up with fewer deaths. We just don’t know.

What we can do in the meantime is chew each others ears off with massive amounts of speculation, and I have no doubt we will.

This is not speculation:

As of today, appx 106 children have died of H1N1*

Almost 50% of those have died JUST IN SEPTEMBER.

According to CDC numbers, an average of 75 children have died from seasonal flu every year since the 2003-2004 flu season.

So this year we are already 25% higher than average and we haven’t yet hit the normal “flu season”.

UT staff member dies of swine flu

By Mary Ann Roser | Thursday, October 1, 2009, 02:51 PM

A University of Texas staff member died of swine flu over the weekend, UT has just announced.

UT officials declined to name the person. Bob Harkins, associate vice president for campus safety and security, said the person was a woman in her 40s who did not work in education but rather “in one of our service units — anything from housekeeping to working at counter in some kind of retail operation.”

The woman’s last day at work was Sept. 22, Harkins said.

She was hospitalized at St. David’s Medical Center, but he did not know if she died there. He also did not know whether she lived in Travis County.

Two other people have died in Travis County and 21 have been hospitalized since the outbreak began in April, according to Carole Barasch, spokeswoman for the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department.

“It’s very tragic and tries to point up the severity this illness can have,” Harkins said. “We’ve been fortunate we have not have had hospitalizations and deaths” in the campus community.

The H1N1 swine flu virus has caused mild to moderate illness in most cases. The UT person who died had underlying medical conditions that contributed to her death, Harkins said.
