They Killed Neda but Not Her Voice

Her name was Neda, which means “voice” in Farsi. According to numerous online accounts picked up by media outlets worldwide, she was shot in the streets by Iranian state police while protesting today. This is what repression looks (warning: graphic):

Nice asterisk, but we're not disputing baseball home run records here. Mousavi is about as moderate as Yasser Arafat. Taking the same path too.

Do you have independent sources for this? The reason I ask is that most of the younger crowd in Iran seem to have voted for him: and they are more Westernized than the Ayatollahs...

The answer is, he was once a terrorist lover and US/Israel hater, so it reasons that he he'll always be a terrorist lover and US/Israel hater. His idea of "reform" will probably give women there more rights and end stoning, but that's about it.

One step at a time, or else we re-install a Western puppet.

That's certainly heart-string tugging, but what can the U.S. do? We can't send troops in. We voice our support and then what do you think will happen? There will be more bloodshed and we'll look stupid because the Iranians expected us to intervene.

Why not try a Poland, Solidarity type solution? After all, the Iranians seeded in IEDs into Iraq; why can't we return the favor?

Or just take out their single oil refinery.

You're worried about advancing freedom and democracy in Iran when ours are going to pot?

Reform them BOTH.

I would rather the people here take lessons from the people demonstrating in Iran, than that the government here take lessons from the Basij.

Don't forget, the Shah was overthrown because he wanted to modernize Iran, and the Iranian public was horrified at the very thought of modernity.

Oh, pul-LEAZE! That was thirty freaking years ago! This is a whole different generation who are staying united through Twitter and Youbtube, for Pete's sake! You're comparing apples to oranges.

Yeah, and send the price of oil sky high. Great move, Einstein. Leave your comic book fanatsies to the comic books.

Yeah, as if Zero went into a “Tear down this wall” full-throttle oratory then Neda would somehow be alive. There wasn’t a damn thing Zero, W, or, (God bless him) RR himself could have done to stop Neda’s death.

He's the MessiahTM Hope and Change. He can do ANYTHING.

If he hadn't begun to channel Dhimmi Carter in word and deed, and if he hadn't (by using ACORN and other underhanded stuff, like not showing his long-form birth certificate, thereby undermining the legitimacy of our elections...and as the standard bearer for the world, by implication, *all* elections)...maybe the thugs in Iran wouldn't have been so emboldened.

Or maybe if Dhimmi Carter had bothered to take Al Gore and a bunch of other loons, to certify the elections.

The left uses Alinskyite tactics to discredit the right. It's time we returned the favor, particularly when they preen themselves on the equivalence between superciliousness and moral superiority.

A small, educated cadre of college students. The young people out in the hustings are just as backwards and superstititous as their elders. Iran is bascially the Congo with oil and without jungle. Notice how the only significant protests are in urbanized Tehran. The backcountry goatlovers are bascially happy with Achma-whatsizname and his towelheaded backers.

At the time, about 80% of Iran's population were backward rural dwellers who resented city dwellers and the Iranian bureaucracy (which tended to side with the landlords), so you are probably right.

Riddle me this, Lavrenty.

What proportion of gasoline refined at that site makes it to world markets?

If you think Iran is a third-world dump, you don’t know very much about Iran.

I didn't say he is not a citizen. I'm saying that by playing games with it he calls the entire process into disrepute.

My personal take is that he's Geraldo Rivera's love child, or the birth certificate contains an embarrassing typo, like showing him as white.

Nice try, though.

Judging from your posts Corky, I’d guess otherwise. A simple cell scraping would solve the mystery.
