I just got this note from another poster and twitter on the Americans supporting Iranian liberty & those fighting for it site on Facebook.

This is pertinent right now to the situation in Iran.

Twitter Folks-set your location to Tehran and your time zone to GMT +3.30. Iranian security forces are hunting for bloggers using location/timezone searches. The more people at this location, the more of a logjam it creates for forces trying to shut Iranians' access to the internet down.

We have to help protect the Freedom Fighters.

Please pass the word. There are ways we can help. This is one of those ways.

BTW, persianq seems to be the channel with the most updates. Follow them and iranelection. Iranelection will likely reply to follow you, therefore your “in Tehran” legend will be supported...

Yes...I am updating and tweeting a lot now...but how do I direct a tweet specifcally at a discussion like #IranElection.

I am already sending tweets to specific people and usernames, but how do you do it so it appears in a discussion?

You have to find the trending words they are using for the discussion you want to join. Then use the # signattached to whatever word you’re usingin your post.

I follow everyone I want to discuss things with for the most part so my posts show up on their page [if they follow back] and theirs appear on my page since I’m following them.

It’s kind of hard to explain.

The big problem I found with the #Iran board is too many people are RT [retweeting] stuff so it’s very congested with the same stuff over and over.

There are other apps like tweetdeck and twitterfeed plus more but I don’t use them so I can’t help with that.

I actually believe the best thing you can do is find people to follow and then start posting updates/tweets to them and in general, particularly to the #IranElection discussion. If you are logged in at Tehran at the proper time, the govt stooges there may see you...but if we flood them with updates and tweets they will have a harder time finding the local folks. That's my advise and what I have been doing. I believe now, after using it most of the day, that just being logged in alone is of marginal benefit.
