I heard the ad, it is great, to bad they did not run in March.

Should all of society be burden due to this women and her son?

Doesn’t this fit that rat template of using “victims” to make outrageous statements so that you can’t contradict them without being painted as heartless?

Hey, honey ... if you wuz the “angry woman telling lawmakers that union members would work to defeat lawmakers who didn’t vote their way” then I’d say a tiny revision is needed but the ad still is accurate.

It turns out that the woman portrayed as an SEIU union leader in the commercial is a home health care worker from Fresno named Lisa Brown, who works for the state by caring for her son who has Down syndrome

What the hell??? The state pays her to be this kid's mother??? No friggin' wonder the state is collapsing.

“I am the mother and care provider for a sweet young man with developmental disabilities who doesn’t comprehend the implications of budget cuts on the table in Sacramento,” Brown said”

The son did not say anything. She issued a threat from the union to politicians - one has nothing to do with the other.

The state is paying this woman as an employee to take care of her own son...

Isn’t this the sort of thing parents should be willing to do for free?

Wow! A real life moocher like right out of Atlas Shrugged.

You can’t make this stuff up. Getting hired by the govt to care for her own son and then using this position to threaten lawmakers. I believe that govt employees should not be allowed to vote any longer. By definition it’s a conflict of interest.

It turns out that the woman portrayed as an SEIU union leader in the commercial is a home health care worker from Fresno named Lisa Brown, who works for the state by caring for her son who has Down syndrome.

One of our family members had Downs, and other family members cared for her all her life. They weren't paid by the state to be her caregivers. Plus, there are plenty of places where adults with Downs go to work or learn some independence. I do believe people with Downs are entitled to receive social security, though.

So, I wonder if this woman found a way through the system to collect both social security for her son AND be paid as his caregiver.

IMHO, leave the political ad as is.

Thats all she does? One kid? If she is getting paid, why isn’t she caring for half a dozen kids with Down syndrome? She is a lazy moocher who deserves to lose her job and her child. Give care of the child to someone who will actually work for a living.

Yep, the parent of a special needs child can collect money from the state for taking care of her kid. It’s the California In home Support Service (IHSS) program. Also, special needs community can collect social security at the age of 18, or probably earlier, depending on the income level of the parent. I imagine this woman probably gets all sorts of services provided by the state. As the parent of a child with DS, I have slowly had my eyes opened as to how much help is out there, some of it which I feel should not be funded by the taxpayers.
