Ohio jobless rate jumps to 10.8 percent

COLUMBUS — Ohio’s unemployment rate shot up to 10.8 percent in May, a jump from the 10.2 percent jobless rate in April and the highest monthly rate in more than 25 years.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services released the May rate on Friday, June 19.

“Chances are this is not the end of the line,” said economist Ken Mayland, president of ClearView Economics in Pepper Pike, a Cleveland suburb. “We haven’t seen the peak yet.”

While it’s difficult to predict, Mayland said the rate could peak at about 12 percent in July before starting to decline.

Just for comparison with April rates

Indiana’s April unemployment rate of 9.9 percent was 1 percentage point higher than the national rate of 8.9 percent, but the state fared about the same as some of its neighbors. Ohio’s rate was 10.2 percent, while Kentucky and Illinois were at 9.8 percent and 9.4 percent respectively. Michigan had the country’s highest unemployment rate at 12.9 percent

If government wasn't in the way sucking off 90% of the capital and taxing and regulating business to death, jobs and the economy would be booming. We are being fed a crock of sh*t blaming business and free trade agreements. Ask yourself if you had a million or two to open a business how all the environmental regulations, pending huge tax increases, and government strong arming would affect your decision on where to locate? Business was chugging along just fine right up until the DemonRATs took over Congress. Follow the rise in energy prices and follow the intentional leaking of problems that precipitated the (pick your favorite crisis). The crisis was manipulated to effect the elections, and now everything is being manipulated to affect the complete takeover of every aspect of the economy by the Obama maniacs. All of it illegal, and yet no opposition.

Where I work we are still hiring, although not as many as we were. We set up a room with eight computers where potential candidates can fill out an application on line. There have been days where the line to this room has spilled out the front door.

If it's "difficult to predict", how does he know it won't head for 13%+ in the fall? More whistling past the graveyard. All these unemployeds head us straight for a Depression, no matter how much money the Feds create or how many "shovel ready jobs" are proposed.

My parents are still in denial also, they still blame everything on Bush.

I am using them as a barometer of the mood of Obama voters. Since they are so die hard in the tank for him they actually think he lied in his own book about his drug use in college to make himself look cool. They also think he will cut the budget deficit (ROFL), and they actually believe that 9-11 was an inside job.

I've started to see some early signs of disillusionment lately... which is amazing that's it has taken this long since he has been unemployed for 5 months.
