Angered by White House decisions on everything from greenhouse gases to car dealerships, congressional Democrats from rural districts are threatening to revolt against parts of President Barack Obamas ambitious first-year agenda.
They dont get rural America, said Rep. Dennis Cardoza, a Democrat who represents Californias agriculture-rich Central Valley. They form their views of the world in large cities.
Cardozas critique was aimed at Obamas Environmental Protection Agency, but it echoes complaints rural-district Democrats have about a number of Obama administration decisions.
I wouldnt say its a complete strikeout, but theyve just got a few more bases to it when it comes to the rural community, said Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu.
A rural revolt could hamper the administrations ability to pass climate change and health care legislation before the August recess.
Democrats from farm states are some of the same moderate members Obama must win to get almost any piece of his agenda through the Senate: Landrieu and Sens. Max Baucus of Montana, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, and Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor of Arkansas. Without their votes, Democrats cant move legislation over Republican filibusters such as the one sure to come if the health care plan that moves through the Senate includes a public option supported by the administration.

“A Country Boy can survive”.
The insularity of the urbs is the root of most of the friction in this nation. They really believe that their lifestyle and philosophy are indicators of superior intelligence.
Don't forget..."and Hollywood" too.
The inner cities fear us backwoods rural savages.
All I can say is when things go really upside down and the cities fall it WILL be rural America that resurrects America.
Movies like “The Postman” sometimes tend to actually become prophetic I believe.
Your arguments are a microcosm of “Atlas Shrugged”!..............
Commies call the solutions "Cultural Revolutions"...
I echo your sentiments exactly. (Except, no wife, no homeschool and only one dog). The numbnuts making up these laws don't have a clue about what rural life is like. I feel certain they would be amazed if they spent a week with you or me.
Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) questioned how independent owned and operated businesses have any financial impact on automakers.Bump to you Sen. Hagan. I don't understand it either. And I'd really like to know the answer.None of us can quite understand why they consider dealerships a drag when they are the ones that buy the cars, that take the financial risks. Many of the dealerships that are being closed are profitable.
“The inner cities fear us backwoods rural savages”. Damn right. Those idiots are not self reliant and have gotten very comfortable being dependant on others. Problem with the dim party is that the inner cities voting is taken over by acorn and federal spending goes to those cities. The rural folks get left out of the deal while having to pay higher taxes. My case is anecdotal, but common. I left the big city in 1989 when I figured out that the taxpayers were getting soaked more and more to pay for services that I received no benefit. My property taxes were raised unbelievably year after year, while schools got worse, the roads went unrepaired, crime went up and the city responded by raising taxes on those left paying. Finally, I decided to hell with this and moved out. The big cities have become a mess because the city leaders think that no one is mobile and they can keep on taxing those that still pay. Eventually, it becomes apparent that they will never let up and will break your finances. I now live in a rural area and have BETTER police/fire response, MUCH less crime and increasing property value with property taxes that are very visible. I can directly see where my taxes are going and my family and community benefit from them. They aren’t taxing me and sending the money to buy votes to raise my taxes again. I would much rather take my chances out in the country than ever live in a big city again.
uh oh...
I guess that’s my clue that the unread Atlas Shrugged book on my back seat of my car should be....brought inside.
*looking down. Feeling sheepish. Not up to FReeper standards....yet!*
Don't worry, that lil ol islamic bomb will take care of that pesky large city thing for you in due time.
Stupid people do and say stupid things: nuff said if you voted for the O.

Don’t feel bad, I’m still trying to get thru Rand’s “The Fountainhead” after over a year..............
I guess there really is a silver lining to every cloud.
Most, if not all, of the cities the Islam loving terrorists have on their list to attack are liberal strong holds.
Yeah? Well what the hell will they DO about it? Ask their Hero B.O. for a giant rural federal subsidy/bailout?
Maybe they ought to come to their senses and see where their party is headed. They can convert to conservatism, come to the Republicans, and take America back to the promise of liberty and freedom.
Nah. That’d make sense.
What will probably happen is they’ll be given a token nod or two by B.O., a sufficient number of them will swoon, and the decline of our once great nation will continue.
well why don’t the nitwits running Chicago know this? If the mere threat of that could keep a foreign power from attacking, shouldn’t that keep the south side in line?
