Sarkozy denounces Iran vote 'fraud'
IC Puplications ^ | June 16, 2009

Posted on 06/16/2009 11:51:35 AM PDT by Kaslin

rench President Nicolas Sarkozy on Tuesday branded Iran's election result a fraud as the international outcry over the security forces' crackdown on the opposition in Tehran intensified.

Governments from Asia to Europe voiced concern about the violence that erupted Monday during rallies protesting the hardliner Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's re-election, with US President Barack Obama saying he had "deep concerns" while also not wanting to meddle in Iran's affairs.

But while some governments tried to avoid taking sides, Sarkozy said the unrest was a direct result of Ahmadinejad's failings in his first term.

"The extent of the fraud is proportional to the violent reaction," said the French leader.

"It is a tragedy, but it is not negative to have a real opinion movement that tries to break its chains," Sarkozy said.

"If Ahmadinejad has really made progress since the last election and if he really represents two thirds of the electorate... why has this violence erupted?"

At least seven people were killed on Monday in street battles between the security forces and supporters of Iran's former prime minister Mir Hossein Mousavi who claim that their man was cheated of victory in Friday's poll.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said questions about the validity of the outcome needed to be answered and that the violent scenes threatened Iran's international standing.

"The regime must address the serious questions which have been asked about the conduct of the Iranian elections," said Brown.

"The way the regime responds to legitimate protests will have implications for Iran's relationships with the rest of the world in the future."

France has a proper Western leader who understands the threat of the Moscow-[nuclear]-armed, Shia-terrorist-exporting Tehran dictatorship. America is stuck with a communist-Muslim sleeper, who is cheering in the basement, off camera, for a fellow Muslim and 'comrade'.

Putin's puppet greeting 'rat boy'Ahmadinejad in Moscow and is informed by Medvedev: "Superb job comrade! You realize the way you stole that election lol.., reminds myself and The Boss how we do things!..lolol.. but now is your time to liquidate all pro-Western elements in Iran, as we dispose of loud mouth reporters along with other traitors to the neo-Soviet system in mother Russia. You will meet The Boss in private for further instructions relating to our nuclear weapons issues, our conservative enemies in America, Europe and of course Israel -- and of course those you & I support, such as Hamas and Hezballah and our communist & Muslim allies around the world, including the new White House. Comrade Hugo sends his warm regards!"

He seems to have turned out to be the about same as Chirac, another Gaullist jerk passing for a “conservative” in France. Are you guys talking about some other Sarkozy?

You certainly do have a grudge against Sarko. I didn’t even have to read down to the end of the post to know it was you.

While our wuss of a POTUS refuses to “meddle” in the stirrings of a true democracy movement in Iran, Sarko is out on the hustings loudly proclaiming solidarity with the Iranian people who seek freedom and democracy.

Sounds like Ronald Reagan to me, in his great statement standing with the Solidarity movement in Poland, as the Red military rolled in to crush it.

Thanks to Powerline Blog for that story.

Bibi Netanyahu and Sarko are now the leaders of the Free World.

Shame on you, Barack Obama, for being such a coward, and such a defender of tyranny.,

Sarko is very different from his predecessor, the totally corrupt in-bed-with-the oil sheiks, known as Jacques Iraq.

>> You certainly do have a grudge against Sarko. I didn’t even have to read down to the end of the post to know it was you. <<

Cincinna,

I simply have a grudge against all liberal politicians that freepers try to pass off as "conservatives". Olympia Snowe occasionally does the right thing, you could create a tribute post claiming she's the reincarnation of Ronald Reagan because she supported Bush's tax cuts. That doesn't change the fact she's supporting the socialist anti-American agenda 70-80%. Ditto with your guy Sarko. The fact he occasionally says the right thing does not change the fact he's simply the French version of Hillary Clinton. Hillary probably has more in common with Sarko than Royal. Both are UN/EU loving globalists. Over there she'd probably be seen as "conservative" simply because she voted in favor of the WOT and supports some wall street friendly legislation.

>> While our wuss of a POTUS <<

Ah yes, Hussein Obama, whom your "conservative" hero Sarko proudly ENDORSED over McCain last year, saying his election would "vindicate" Sarko's overtures to America. Of course you like to pretend Sarko hates the man he begged Americans to elect. It's cute.

>> Sarko is out on the hustings loudly proclaiming solidarity with the Iranian people who seek freedom and democracy. <<

Again, the much hated left-wing dope running England said the exact same thing about the Iranian elections. By your standards, Gordon Brown must be a great "leader of the right"

>> Bibi Netanyahu and Sarko are now the leaders of the Free World. <<

Netanyahu is a terrific free-market, limited government conservative who despises Islam and would NEVER hail Arabic as the language of the future or claim the Islamisation of Europe is "inevitable". Sarko is not fit to shine his shoes. The conservative leaders in Europe now are people like Czech President Klaus, Geert Wilders in Denmark, and the Kaczyński brothers in Poland. All are 10X more conservative than Sarko on his best day.

>> Shame on you, Barack Obama, for being such a coward, and such a defender of tyranny., <<

Shame on you, Nicholas Sarkozy, for calling yourself a conservative and helping elect the likes of Obama.

>> Sarko is very different from his predecessor, the totally corrupt in-bed-with-the oil sheiks, known as Jacques Iraq. <<

Jacques Iraq himself would certainly disagree with you, he was pretty animate about wanting Sarko the socialist to be his successor, especially since Sarko was in his cabinet and the nominee of his party. If Sarko was truly the candidate of change and Royal was more of the same, Jac Iraq would have been begging voters to elect her. Your posts simply sound like a retreat of the Arnold apologists out in California. They spent years insisting Arnie was a "vast improvement" over Gray Davis, when it reality Arnold was just as bad, if not worse, than his predecessor -- and Davis himself hailed Arnold for continuing and expanding his socialist agenda.

Sarkozy can only be viewed in the context of the political system in France.

He has taken a moribund political party, RPR (Rallye for the Republic) and transformed it into a modern, pro-business, pro-western cultural values, and pro-individual rights and responsibilitiesd anationalist, Gaullist Party. This new party, UMP, has been the vehicle that Sarko has used to drag a top heavy, bloated 19th century bureaucratic France, kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

Sarko has, in just two years, succeeded in totally decimating the opposition on the Left, and the almost total destruction of the PS (Socialist Party. I espect him to do the same with the Greens. Sarko knows that Green is the new Red, and Sarko is as anti-Socialist and anti-Communist and anti-totalitarian as any Western leader.

The reason Chirac supported Sarko in the end, is he is, at heart, a Gaullist, who detests the Left. If you know anything about Chirac, or the political class of his generation, they would never, ever, support a Socialist.

Which is bad and worse unfortunately. The "right" is further to the right in just about every other European country. Not to mention complete embrace of the EU by these "Gaulists".

This new party, UMP, has been the vehicle that Sarko has used to drag a top heavy, bloated 19th century bureaucratic France, kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

The UMP was formed by Chirac and it originally stood for "Union for a Presidential Majority". He and his PMs unpopularity lead to Sark's rise in the party. He had been leader of Rally for the Republic briefly in 1999, until a horrible result in the 1999 elections sent him packing.

The reason Chirac supported Sarko in the end, is he is, at heart, a Gaullist, who detests the Left. If you know anything about Chirac, or the political class of his generation, they would never, ever, support a Socialist.

Hehe. Well Chirac may have passed for the "right" in France but as far as I'm concerned he's the left and PS is the far-left. Chirac backed the man from his own party who isn't as dissimilar to him as we believed.

Back to Sark, how can you explain his ridiculous remarks on Islam? Mistranslation?

I'm sorry but I fail to see how he's turned out anything but marginally better than Chirac (not hard to accomplish that). Maybe you can cite some examples.

He's been a big letdown after all the hype from conservative publications. I almost see a parallel with GWB who was touted as a conservative unlike his daddy, which turned out to be false. And if both cases many conservatives can't admit they were fooled.

Your lack of knowledge about French Political History and the French political system, is astounding.

Can’t you think outside of the box of US politics for a moment to understand what happens in other parts of the world? Do you even read or speak French? Read French newspapers or political journals on the Right? Or just dit n’importe quoi when it pleases you?

Perhaps some of our French and European FReepers can help us out here, and contribute to the discussion.

What's happening in the another part of the world (Europe) is that is it's under threat from Muslim immigrants and the rising EU superstate and your boy Sark doesn't appear to have a problem with that. And thanks but I DO understand that their entire political spectrum is well to the left of ours, thing is I don't like that and it's to their extreme detriment.

Do you even read or speak French?

No. Will knowing the language impart an appreciation for left-of-the-actual-center Gaullists. Somehow I doubt it, just as I doubt knowing Chinese would improve my opinion of Maoism.

I still wait for you to give specific examples of how Sark has been measurably better than Chirac or genuinely deserving of praise. And an explanation of his comments on Islam and the Arabic language and how they don't mean he's a giant idiot.

Well I guess you’re gonna have to wait forever Impy since Cinnica doesn’t deign to share his arcane knowledge of how what Sark said about Islam isn’t retarded. Oh well.
