They use forklift in getaway from city lot
Thieves of the especially brazen variety busted into a New Orleans repair lot for city-owned vehicles Thursday night or early Friday, and made off with two unmarked police cars.
The car-lot burglars apparently hopped the fence at the maintenance facility on Alvar Street in the Desire neighborhood, said Bob Young, a spokesman for the New Orleans Police Department.
They managed to break into a building and snatch keys to two cars that belong to the Police Department.
Then, to get the cars out, the thieves used a forklift inside the compound to knock down chained fence gates. They then drove the cars out of the lot, Young said.
The theft occurred sometime between Thursday at 5 p.m. and Friday at 5 a.m., when the maintenance facility was closed, Young said.
Once the burglars got into one of the cars, a 2002 silver Ford Crown Victoria, they should have known they were stealing a police vehicle, Young said, because the car has a removable blue light and siren. The other vehicle, a 2002 red Chevy Impala, has no police equipment.
Some tools also were stolen, Young said.
Police are asking for help in identifying the thieves and finding the missing cars. The silver Crown Victoria has a Louisiana license plate KXT 918, and the Vehicle Identification Number 2FAFP71W22X129398.
The red Impala has no license plate. Its VIN number is 2G1WF52E229287549.

You’d think the police would have better security.
Don’t cars come with Lo-jack?
Ummm, this is New Orleans, a city which makes Chicago look pure and uncorrupted.
Especially in New Orleans.
Hell, they’ll probably find out it was cops who stole them!
Reminds me of this:

The Mountain View (CA) police here in Silicon Valley had one stolen during a concert. No Lo-Jack, no GPS, no radio. They found it maybe three days later in a parking garage not too far from where the guy grabbed. Nothing further in that story.
I wonder how long it will take for the GTA series of games to be blamed for this one.
I’ve seen cops deal drugs on the street in N.O.
Nothing surprises me about that town.
Must have been Pagans.
Bingo.
BS! Chicago, Kenya too, gave us the 0, that trumps anything any other city or state gives us.

True, true. But LA politics, especially in the NO area are so supersedingly corrupt, that by comparison, Mayor Daly (either one) would be fit to enter the Kingdom of Heaven without any process of purgatory.
We are going to have to agree to disagree.
If you wrote that NOLA politicians were stupid, I would agree. But come on, Daley, his dad and lets not forget Willy Daley who worked with the Gore camp in 2000. They are the Kennedy’s of Chicago.
William Jefferson is nothing compared to two governors, one in jail, one possibly going trump that as well.
NOLA and LA. is kindergarden compared to these guys.
Here is a link I found when trying to think of spelling of the great Dan Rostenkowski of IL. LOL Read Mel Reynolds from IL. as well.

What should roost us all is these guys still get pensions.

Fully agreed.

Only one of the two was Chicago based.

My take on it, for whatever it’s worth, is that the corruption in LA, although from a smaller pie, is more complete. For whatever it’s worth.
BTW, I had an opportunity to go through NO airport to Thibadoux on business about 8 weeks ago and found it absolutely wonderful. We had the all you can eat crabs at Big Al’s on the west side. If it weren’t for the idea that any high tide could inundate Houma, I’d be really be tempted to move there.

I think that we might be arguing as to the completeness of corruption. I work in Illinois (and live across the Mississippi). I wouldn’t give any more cash to Springfield or Cook County than I possibly could avoid.
