Well, the big story yesterday was the nut job who attacked the Holocaust Museum, killing a guard. If anything is a “hate crime,” this is, though I don’t think that means he should be punished more harshly. Yes, it’s traumatic for those who appropriately hold the museum in high regard, but he should be punished for the act, not his state of mind at the time.
Of course, the slander has already begun. Not of him, but of “right-wingers” and “conservatives.” The standard media template — that he was a white Christian “right-winger” — has been trotted out, and the DHS report from last January has supposedly been vindicated. I just heard Ralph Peters, who I would have thought knew better, call the guy a “right-winger” on Cavuto.
But what in his bio makes him “right-wing”?
And Von Brunn is a demoncRAT. Unfortunately, this action by a hateful old geezer will fuel obozo’s push for the national hate crime legislation which is ridiculous. The man committed and will be punished under the existing laws. There is no need for the “hate crimes legislation.”

How can it be that conservatives are pointed at for this man’s actions, but Reverend Wright is not pointed at? The shooter has more in common with Reverend Wright and his ilk than he does with conservatives.

I’ve glanced through his writings (his website is down, but there are cached versions around), and he attacks both sides pretty hard (he goes after “neocons,” but he also viciously attacks liberals, marxists, and Democrats).
As much as some would like to make this guy into a far-left Democrat, I wouldn’t call him a left-wing whacko OR a right-wing whacko. I think it’s sufficient quite simply to call him a wacko.
