The State of Shame has descended into a state of shambles.
Yesterday's coup d'etat revealed Albany for the madhouse it has become, with the lunatics firmly in charge of the asylum.
All you need to know to size up the execrable events is that control of New York's Senate hinged on power-playing by one man who is under indictment for allegedly slashing his girlfriend's face and by a second man who supposedly represents the Bronx but lives in Westchester and is a recidivist ethics violator.
Meanwhile, Republican boss Dean Skelos is only too happy to welcome turncoat Democrats Hiram Monserrate and Pedro Espada into his camp, while preposterously proclaiming that, at long last, reform is coming to the Capitol.
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
What's come to the Capitol is a restoration of GOP dominion over the Senate after who-knows-what promises Skelos made to buy the fleeting loyalties of Monserrate and Espada. With them, Skelos goes from 30 to 32 votes, the bare majority Malcolm Smith thought he had while haplessly leading the Dems.
Left to wail, "Hey, that's not fair," Smith planted the seeds of his destruction by failing to reach across the aisle to Republicans despite having the barest majority. By doing so, he placed his fate in the hands of extortionists, exactly as Skelos has done.
Meanwhile the fate of, oh, mayoral control of the schools and gay marriage hangs in the balance, along with hundreds of lesser issues.
A pox on all their houses.
I am not all that happy that there are huge black clouds hanging over the heads of these two Dems.
What a bunch of cry babies. If it had been the other way around (GOP switching to DNC), they would be appluaded, congratulating the senators for being “enlightened”.
Montserrate is a women beater, but other than that is pretty good on constituent issues.
Ditto. The original article about this mentioned both were under investigation and could be removed from office if convicted. This seems like a foundation of quicksand.
As well .. they said that they one fellow was charged with “felony assault charges in March stemming from an attack on his companion.” Companion? Is that polite-speak for mistress or gay lover?
Wailing like a stuck pig doesn’t particularly impress.
If the Democrats had just done this, it would be the master move of the century. Now it’s a coup d’etat.
As for throwing in complaints of criminal behavior, I guess the Democrats have never been found to do such things in New Yack.
Oh, boo-hoo. Why don’t you call Jim Jeffords to bring over some ice.
.......recidivist ethics violator.....
Har Har Hardi har Har...... the man just described the entire (that means all for those of you in Rio Linde) of the Obama administration including his wife and church
Two words: Arlen Specter
And now the gays are upset. This could get bloody.
Albany isn’t a madhouse. It’s a cesspool.
I can’t say that I am upset about this, its just that 1. A “New York Republican” is basically a moderate Democrat. The GOP controlled the State Senate for much of my life, but did NOTHING but contribute to making New York more of a socialist, union-ridded hellhole and B. I call them as they see them. Espada is a scumbag who tried to sneak away from reporters in a goofy orange cap when confronted in his Westchester home (when he represents THE BRONX). Also, go do a google search on Espada’s nonprofits which turned a nice, uh, profit for him over the years.
As i understand it the Senate is done for the year in two weeks, so it is unlikely this can be undone in that period.
I live in PA. BUT.....I’m so proud of these two democrats for standing up for what is right!!!!
GOOOOOO REPUBLICANS!!!!!!
Looking at this mess from afar, it appears that Golisano made it worth their while to switch.
Was the DN exorcised when HRC carpetbagged her way into the Senate, fueled by pardon money?
Until I see convictions, I know they ain’t goin’ anywhere. Gephardt gave his mother’s address as his voting address for years.
What's good for the goose...
