Foes of the global jihad are constantly accused of quoting the Qur'an "out of context," but when Barack Obama actually did so in Cairo yesterday, no one seems to have minded.
He quoted one Qur'an verse in connection with speaking of our shared interests as human beings:
As the Holy Koran tells us, "Be conscious of God and speak always the truth." That is what I will try to do to speak the truth as best I can, humbled by the task before us, and firm in my belief that the interests we share as human beings are far more powerful than the forces that drive us apart.
Ironically, the Qur'anic passage from which his quote comes actually is about fighting unbelievers, and doesn't remotely lead to thoughts of coming together with people with whom one has differences.
Obama quoted 9:119, which Pickthall renders this way: "O ye who believe! Be careful of your duty to Allah, and be with the truthful."
The passage continues:
It is not for the townsfolk of Al-Madinah and for those around them of the wandering Arabs to stay behind the messenger of Allah and prefer their lives to his life. That is because neither thirst nor toil nor hunger afflicteth them in the way of Allah, nor step they any step that angereth the disbelievers, nor gain they from the enemy a gain, but a good deed is recorded for them therefor. Lo! Allah loseth not the wages of the good. Nor spend they any spending, small or great, nor do they cross a valley, but it is recorded for them, that Allah may repay them the best of what they used to do. And the believers should not all go out to fight. Of every troop of them, a party only should go forth, that they (who are left behind) may gain sound knowledge in religion, and that they may warn their folk when they return to them, so that they may beware. O ye who believe! Fight those of the disbelievers who are near to you, and let them find harshness in you, and know that Allah is with those who keep their duty (unto Him). -- 9:120-123 In that passage, the Qur'an is scolding Muslims who refused to accompany Muhammad on his expedition to Tabouk in northern Arabia, where he wanted to fight a Byzantine garrison. The Byzantines weren't there when he arrived, and so there was no battle, but he was considerably angered that some Muslims in Medina and among the Bedouins ("wandering Arabs") had refused to make the trip -- they "prefer[red] their lives to his life." The Qur'an promises that if they do anything that "angereth the disbelievers," they will be credited with having done a good deed, and Allah will repay them for such good deeds. The Muslims should fight the unbelievers and be harsh with them.
Obama picked out of this one sentence that made it appear as if the Qur'an was simply counseling one to speak the truth, mindful of the divine presence. In reality, the passage is about the necessity to wage jihad warfare against unbelievers, and not to fail to perform this duty. He took a passage about warfare and division and passed it off as part of a call for us all to come together and sing kumbaya.
Yet neither Honest Ibe Hooper of CAIR nor any other Muslim spokesman is complaining today that Obama quoted the Qur'an out of context. How strange!
I think the Koran quoting may backfire on Obama.
As a Christian, when I hear non-Christian groups (gay rights, PETA, etc...) using quotes from the Bible to prove their point, it doens’t make me more open to thier poisition, it makes me angry. I know they are taking them out of context and twisting their meaning for their own purposes.
“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone” for example, has been used countless times to try and show that people should keep their mouths shut about sinful activites. Of course, they never quote the second half of the story: “now go forth, and sin no more.” The story, taken in its entierty, is about forgiveness, putting your sinful ways behind you, and starting again fresh. But when you only quote the first part of the story, you twist it into a story about ignoring sin.
I have to wonder how many of Obama’s Koran quotes were taken out of context or he tried to twist to fit his goals. My guess is more than a few. In which case he probably just made muslims madder due to his misquoting of the Koran.
In Obama's defense, it would be admittedly very difficult to find a verse in the Koran which didn't pertain in some way to killing infidels, subjugating other peoples and converting them by the sword, oppressing women, etc.
Regards,
“Those without the Spirit”, ie, non-Christians, cannot fathom the meaning of the Word, so they apply their own meaning ON the words.
1 Cor 2:14
The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Actually I think he knew exactly what he was saying! He used a phrase that would sound benign to a non mohammadan but to a mohammadan it would be understood for what it was!
That's exactly what I thought when I read the article. The guy is as low as a snake and twice as slippery.
Mohamed is not a prophet, he was a perverted, sadistic, warmongering mental case acting as an agent of the Devil.
He’s a deceiver. He claims to be a Christian yet he denies the divinity of Christ.
This is either a huge gaffe or a wink and a nod on his part.
In his autobiography, Dreams of My Father, Obama relates how he got into trouble for making faces during Koranic studies...
Maybe he shoulda paid attention in class?
it don’t tell me squat

Notice how Obama refers to Jesus simply as an “historical figure” and how John tells us to detect the anti-christ and the “spirit of error”. I’m not saying that 0bama is the anti-christ, just that he works for him.
GG: Whos Jesus to you?
OBAMA: Right. Jesus is a historical figure for me, and hes also a bridge between God and man, in the Christian faith, and one that I think is powerful precisely because he serves as that means of us reaching something higher. And hes also a wonderful teacher. I think its important for all of us, of whatever faith, to have teachers in the flesh and also teachers in history.
1 John 4
Test the Spirits
1Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
4You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.
Anyone who leads the flock astray IN THE NAME OF JESUS is an antiChrist figure. Not THE antiChrist but one working AGAINST Christ to lead the faithful away from Biblical teachings.
He is a deceiver.
I’d be more okay with his socialist secular humanism if he didn’t claim to be OF Christ, which by his words and deeds he is not.
Secular humanism
is just another name for Satanism.
Being “hip” and a “humanist” is just being friends with the world, which is enmity to God.
He cited a Catholic priest he says “brought him to Jesus” in adulthood (although his fiction filled campaign website claimed he was a lifelong Christian). While it was a Catholic figure who brought him to Christianity, he ultimately settled on a 20 year membership at a former muslim’s hate filled church (which engaged in “interfaith” ministries with the racist Father Pfleger).
He seems to have gone to church twice since his election (once to his grandmother's Unitarian church for her second funeral, and once for Easter Sunday). He does not appear to be bringing his children up within the Church and it's been reported that he does not give his kids Christmas gifts (there is nothing biblical about the tradition, just something noted in the media).
His staff is still searching for him a church in Washington DC. Shouldn't he have already had one there if he was attending church on Sundays (at least occasionally) while he was in the Senate?
Good post.
All he has to do is turn on CNN at any time to “attend services” in the “Church of Obama”.
I’ve come to believe nobama is no empty suit. He and his comittee know exactly what they have planned for this country and it is NOT to keep it strong. I also believe he was, is and will forever be a muslim. The more trips he makes out of this country the more he speaks to the world of “peace”....but it is the muslim’s term for peace. World control.
