"Anti-cross agenda" (ACLU’s attack on war veterans memorial reaches U.S. Supreme Court)
California Catholic Daily ^ | June 9, 2009 | staff

Posted on 06/09/2009 5:05:37 AM PDT by kellynla

ANN ARBOR, MI – The Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, announced today that it has filed a friend of the court brief opposing the ACLU’s campaign to tear down another war memorial cross.

At issue is a small cross originally erected on Sunrise Rock in 1934 by the Veterans of Foreign Wars in memory of the dead of all wars. The cross is located in California’s Mojave Desert, in a remote area where the only visible signs of human activity are off-road vehicles and trail hikers. The ACLU succeeded in its anti-cross agenda by obtaining a ruling in the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals holding that the cross violated the so-called separation of church and state. However, the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case, Ken Salazar v. Frank Buono.

When the Supreme Court considers the case, it will have in its file a compelling brief supporting the use of crosses in war memorials filed by the Thomas More Law Center. Joining the Law Center’s brief is the Individual Rights Foundation.

“Through our brief and the compelling stories of the war heroes we represent, we want the court to feel the devastating impact removing crosses will have on those who have sacrificed so much for this country,” commented Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel for the Law Center. “Since the beginning of America, crosses have been used to memorialize our fallen war veterans and to give solace to their families and comrades. Ironically, the Ninth Circuit used the very constitution these veterans defended with their lives to order the destruction of the memory of their heroic sacrifices. Sadly, the cross in the Mojave Desert is currently covered from view until the appeal is resolved.”

Ya know. There IS something wrong with the ACLU. There are over 40 thousand white crosses in cemetery's abroad and I don't even KNOW how many in Arlington, West Point, etc. etc in our nations FEDERALLY OWNED MEMORIAL CEMETERYS.There are scripture quotes on MANY of our greatest FEDERALLY OWNED memorials not only in DC but across our country!

Every time anyone uses our money, ANYTIME, the words 'IN GOD WE TRUST' are right there for them to see and be, oh gasp, offended by.

Why is the ACLU using this money to FIGHT something so ridiculous when they could ACTUALLY be helping to ENSURE our most PRECIOUS CIVIL LIBERTY, that being the RIGHT TO VOTE by going after the slugs that operate ACORN and many of the thugs that work therein. HUH? I mean ....

Why isn't the ACLU, that accepts FEDERAL DOLLARS, going after the creepy BLACK PANTHERS that INTIMIDATED VOTERS in Philly????Creeps that were shown on film and in photos standing armed in front of a precinct voting place.

I mean, our new DOJ head, eric holder, who is apparently a huge racist (against anyone who is not black) has DECIDED to not prosecute the THUGS who stood there and has ordered the case dropped.

WHY?

And as for the ACLU, if they were not so busy worrying about a cross here or there, they could be going after those black thugs who tried to intimidate others, on site, at an AMERICAN VOTING PLACE. The most basic of civil libertys was physically challanged by dirtbags that the ACLU does not have time to prosecute...

Why?

Why go after crosses and thugs who tried to scare voters (white voters, of course) out of voting?

Is it because the thugs were BLACK?

I think it is.

Correction to above post by me, the third sentence from the end should read

'Why go after crosses and yet NOT GO AFTER the thugs who tried to literally frighten voters ( white voters, of course ) out of voting?'

And what is funny, when the ACLU tries to prove they are not just leftwing, they cite ridiculous examples of defending the KKK or some other nut organization, as if that mostly Democratic organization is somehow conservative.

I am sure you all have wondered on occasions as to how many lawyers in this unholy union have been educated in Ivy League colleges and others over the years, by far left liberal professors. Educations being payed by parents who have made it rich on American soil, but most often having not a shred of American patriotism in their souls.

At this point in life I would be surprised if I would be shocked. ACLU = Lenin’s useful idiots.

Planned Parenthood and the ACLU are tied at the hip and the founders of both are “Fellow-Travelers.”

I got an e-mail today explaining it would be a good idea to write “In God We Trust” on every piece of mail since the govt has decided to abolish it in stamps, etc.

I think I’ll start doing exactly that.

I don’t know that they did...yet, but there’s an effort to remove IGWT from coins, and pretty much everything else.

Christianity is under assault in this country. And now we have a president that claims we’re not a Christian country but a muslim one.

I just watched this video and got really upset at some stupid persons comment which read

“In Arlington, I believe that fallen soldiers’ families pick the appropriate symbol. Some of them have Jewish stars, for example. Soldiers can also get bars, or hearts, or stars, depending on their service and injury. Maybe flags would make a good monument, like a U.S. flag coupled with the Marine Flag, Army Flag, etc. Flags are beautiful, and truly represent what they fought for.”

Don’t these people understand we fight for more than a flag?

I think someone needs to send this out on some type of ping list so we can bump up the views, educate people and post some conservative comments. Someone with a ping list help please!
