Restoring America's Marriages (Dick Cheney should be ashamed)

Last week marked a nadir in the battle for biblical marriage. Two huge events occurred. First, former VP Dick Cheney voiced his support for same-sex marriage. Second, New Hampshire became the sixth state in the Union to legalize gay marriage. Despite these two events, nationalizing same-sex marriage is absolutely not inevitable. Gay marriage proponents are only too aware that the recent California Supreme Court ruling that the 2008 Proposition 8 victory will stand guarantees that a fresh round of marriage amendments, initiatives, and referendums will undoubtedly be levied in the states that have scored temporary victories for same-sex marriage.

Dick Cheney should be ashamed. It is one thing to have a daughter who lives her life as a lesbian and choosing not to join the fight against gay marriage but to come out in support of such a horrible lie and use a rhetoric not fit for a man like him. His glib comments were stupid and sound like the whimpering of a young libertarian rather than a conservative. I'm sorry Dick, I thought I knew ya.

It is not unlike the near 100% support among African Americans for Obortion---including those who believe in the sanctity of life.

Sometimes selfish self-interests trump everything else.

He didn’t.
He said he believed it ought not be a federal issue, and instead be left up to each state.
That is a solid and constitutionally correct position to take.

He also voiced support for his daughter’s relationship.
He did not go so far as to endorse same-sex marriage, though.
Those on both the right and left who are trying to conflate the two and misrepresent the former VP are the ones who should be ashamed.

When I think of the damage the destruction of marriage has brought on America and our culture, I can’t understand why Cheney took the easy out on this. Maybe it is a compromise in his own family. Gay marriage is just one more nail in the coffin of marriage, one more step towards trivializing it, and the result will be more young males raised by single mothers. Marriage is a contract between a man and a woman that serves both of them, their families and the children that follow. The fact that divorce has ruined the meaning and purpose of marriage is no reason to do further harm by allowing gay marriages. We will pay for our cultural ignorance.

The Repubs spend way too much time whining about what people choose to do with their personal lives and some go further with trying to expand/misuse the power of the federal government to push their own agenda.

Can’t have it both ways, folks. Either you want government in none of your business or all of it.

Somehow, I think Cheney has done more for his country than anyone who says he should be ashamed. Cheney’s position is that the people of the States should regulate marriage, which has been the tradition of America for the last couple hundred years.

Did Cheney ever claim to be a Christian?

You are wrong, he clarified himself on Greta’s show with the following:

D. CHENEY: “I made the announcement at the outset that I believe equal rights means equal rights for everybody and that people ought to be able to enter into any kind of relationship they want, but that the states ought to retain the ability to regulate and determine what’s marriage and what the legal status of those unions are. It should not be a federal issue.”

What he said is not constitutionally sound. His little diddy about Equal rights is stupid and sounds like something right out of the mouth of the left. I understand where he is coming from but he didn’t just leave it in relationship to his father. Also I totally disagree that state by state decision is the only thing that is Constitutional. I used to believe leaving it up to the states was sufficient but then again a constitutional amendment requires ratification by the states and if the support is there to pass such an amendment then I would support it. Marriage is not something that should redefined and such an amendment would fit perfectly in our constitution. Our founders never saw fit for it because they would have never dreamed Americans would have fallen so far. Also there is absolutely no saving grace in the elevation of the fringe sexual peculiarities of a bullying minority class who started their activism because the cops dared enforce decency standards on their orgy rooms, urinal pickups, and public park escapades.

Now there’s a foolish comment.

Who exactly do you think is trying to FORCE gay marriage on the American people??? I’ll give you a hint, the first letters are GOV...

Well you know what burns me up. My 4 year old son loves rainbows and the fagots have ruined rainbows. They have not only ruined rainbows by associating their degenerate lifestyle with them but want to ruin the definition of marriage. Well that is the line they will not cross. Their big lie must stop and I’m getting so tired of idiot conservatives or neo-liberations or Republicans with the convictions of cowards who are all ready to cede ground on issues like global warming, pervert rights, socialism, the educratocracy. I’m not he to leave the world I grew up in for the brave new Folsom Street parade of good intentions. I’m not going to let the line slip any further.

Do we really want a world where someone who chooses to disagree with the whims of sexual activists is treated like a racist? Is that what we want because there are far worse things to come out of the closet and once we give in to this lie the next beast will come wanting its protections and its lifting up and its worship. This is a serious issue and it will not stop with marriage. So those who wish to accommodate because they are too old or too beaten down should think about what they are letting slip away because once it is gone that heritage and that innocence will be expensive to reclaim.

Check this out if you want to see the glorious gay world. This is an excellent website that exposes the disgusting nature of the gay movement. There are lots of pictures which tell the story in a way that makes a lie out of all the gay euphemisms. Please pass these websites around the internet. Americans need an antidote to the many years of gay indoctrination.

Agreed. Nosey Conservatives should stay out of people's bedrooms just as much as nosey Liberals should stay out of people's gun cabinets.

As Cheney said, freedom means freedom for everyone.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Who is telling them what they can/can’t do in their bedrooms? We are talking about them redefining the definition of marriage.

I saw Cheney on Greta’s show when it aired, and he said nothing about supporting same-sex marriage. Cheney said people ought to be able to enter into any relationship they choose. That is the “equal rights for everyone” he was talking about. He then said that states ought to be able to define what marriage is. Just as California has defined for itself what marriage is. Cheney did not say California was wrong. He came out in favor of a process which gives the right to each state. It is constitutionally sound, and grounded in the 10th amendment.

Because some people think government laws enforcing morality is a conservative position.

To some it is not enough that THEY recognize what they think is the sabbath and not drink alcohol or work; they have to pass laws on what businesses can be open on Sunday, and make bars close at midnight on Saturday, etc, etc; to make sure that YOU follow it as well.

Cheney took the absolutely conservative states right position, exactly in accord with the MUCH FORGOTTEN tenth amendment to the US Constitution.

If California wants to define marriage as between one man and one woman that is our right as a State to do so. If Massachusetts wants to define marriage as any social contract between any two adults, that is their right as a State to do so.

Which among the enumerated and limited powers of the federal government gives them the power to determine what marriage will mean in each of the states?

Anyone care to cite the Constitutional passage that gives them this authority?
