According to the Hawaii Star-Bulletin, the State of Hawaii, Department of Health no longer issues copies of paper birth certificates as was done in the past, said spokeswoman Janice Okubo.
The department only issues "certifications" of live births, and that is the "official birth certificate" issued by the state of Hawaii, she said.
And, it's only available in electronic form.
Okubo explained that the Health Department went paperless in 2001.
"At that time, all information for births from 1908 (on) was put into electronic files for consistent reporting," she said.
Information about births is transferred electronically from hospitals to the department.
"The electronic record of the birth is what (the Health Department) now keeps on file in order to provide same-day certified copies at our help window for most requests," Okubo said.
Asked for more information about the short-form versus long-form birth documents, Okubo said the Health Department "does not have a short-form or long-form certificate."
"The birth certificate form has been modified over the years and decades to conform to national standards and models," she said.
Okubo also emphasized the certification form "contains all the information needed by all federal government agencies for transactions requiring a birth certificate."
She added that the U.S. Supreme Court has recognized the state's current certification of live birth "as an official birth certificate meeting all federal and other requirements."
The issue of what constitutes an official Hawaii birth certificate received national attention during last year's presidential campaign. Those who doubted Barack Obama's American citizenship called the copy of the Hawaii birth document posted on his campaign web site a fake.
Asked about that document, Okubo said, "This is the same certified copy everyone receives when they request a birth certificate."
Is Ms. Okubo trying to say that Hawaii no longer has a copy of Obama's original birth certificate on file? -- how convenient.
Is Ms. Okubo saying that the previous statement from Hawaii state health director Dr. Chiyome Fukino is not true?
"Therefore, I, as Director of Health for the State of Hawaii, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawaii State Department of Health has Sen. Obamas original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures."
Why does everyone in Hawaii have a different story?
Maybe Indiana Jones can find Obama's original birth certificate. After all, he found the Ark of the Covenant. COLB 6/7/09
Yes and Obama's case is one of those exceptions, but telling you that is a waste of time.
Go have a Koolaid on me.
I understand it was non-binding.
However, it neutered any Democratic challenge based on “natural born” eligibility.
Read it some time ago. Neither the Ark case or the Elg case say that a person has to be born in the U.S. to be a natural born citizen, both say the opposite. No U.S. law says that only people born in the U.S. are natural born citizens. And the Constitution doesn’t say that as well. Other than that you’re on solid legal grounds. </sarcasm>
Then that’s all I have to say to you.
You just like to argue for arguments sake.
Find another playmate.
His father was not over here as a diplomat or foreign head of state so he did not enjoy diplomatic immunity. He was under the U.S. jurisdiction. Any child of his born in Hawaii, or anywhere else in the U.S., is a natural born citizen.
Considering the Democrats were among the sponsors I doubt any challenge would have been forthcoming.
I'm interested in accuracy, something that's hard to find on occasion. I'd love to see Obama out of office, too. And I'll work as hard as I can in 2012 to make that happen. But stuff like this is a fool's errand.
Same son different tune, just get over it, you've been had, now you are feeling bad about it. I am so sorry. My day will not be affected one way or the other by you illogical rants, so rant away, no one cares.
Local passport office told me that they would never take State Issued Birth Certificates only County and didn’t give me any dates.
I went to San Bernardino County for my daughter who was born in the 80’s because I didn’t want to take a chance.
And you do likewise. I find them very amusing.
According to the LAW at the time, he DID lose it.
On a Hawaii COLB there is no listing for Place of birth doctor or witnesses, the one in that photo looks a great deal like mine.
I call BS on this. Everything that requires a BC requires a copy of the ORIGINAL with the seal of that state on it. How do you put a seal on an electronic BC? This is BS pure and simple. They would not be legal for filing for anything in CA, I know that for a fact and they would not be legal for filing for SS either.
obumpa
Why is Obama spending so much in legal fees to keep his original birth certificate hidden? Is it because he was born in Kenya (his father a Brit and his mother to young to pass along natural born American citizenship)?
Was Obama’s citizenship changed to Indonesia when he was a child? Where is his passport and Occidential College school records?
No he did not.
No he did not.
Bump
People are going about this all wrong. Someone needs to do the leg work on which hospital claims to be his birth place and go from there.
