U.S. Releases Secret List of Nuclear Sites Accidentally
NYT ^ | June 2, 2009 | WILLIAM J. BROAD

Posted on 06/02/2009 6:23:20 PM PDT by balls

The federal government mistakenly made public a 266-page report, its pages marked “highly confidential,” that gives detailed information about hundreds of the nation’s civilian nuclear sites and programs, including maps showing the precise locations of stockpiles of fuel for nuclear weapons.

The publication of the document was revealed Monday in an on-line newsletter devoted to issues of federal secrecy. That publicity set off a debate among nuclear experts about what dangers, if any, the disclosures posed. It also prompted a flurry of investigations in Washington into why the document was made public.

On Tuesday evening, after inquiries from The New York Times, the document was withdrawn from a Government Printing Office Web site.

...

President Obama sent the document to Congress on May 5 for Congressional review and possible revision, and the Government Printing Office subsequently posted the draft declaration on its web site.

Was a copy sent to each of the “detainees” at Guantanamo for future use?

Probably not, but copies were surely sent to Iran and N. Korea!

On its cover, the document attributes its publication to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. But Lynne Weil, the committee spokeswoman, said the committee had “neither published it nor had control over its publication

Someone is lying.... or worse.

Yeah, I’m sure it was an innocent “mistake” by the Barak HUSSEIN Obama Administration. Don’t be surprised by future “mistakes”.

Isn't that why they are getting the laptops and Internet training - so they can Googlemap the locations?

“These screw-ups happen,” said John M. Deutch, a former Director of Central Intelligence and deputy secretary of defense who is now at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Another pinhead quote from the oh-so-intelligensia. And leave it to the NY Slimes to reveal the breach.

I’ve tried to link to the document file at sunshinepress but something strange is going on. First time it completely froze computer at page 1 and had to reboot. Second time it still would only load to cover page despite showing there were a total of 267 pages.

All I can say is it’s been nice knowing all of you. I’ll be waiting for the knock on the door.

That's probably what the Federal employee that released it said.

Of course, since were dealing with those in the Federal government, the document probably was mislabeled and said, "For immediate Internet distribution."
