A new poll of the potential 2012 GOP primary field from CNN/Opinion Research Corp. shows a log jam of three candidates at the top. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and current Alaska Governor Sarah Palin are in a statistical dead heat according to the survey conducted May 14-17 with a 4.5% margin of error:

Huckabee 22 Palin 21 Romney 21 Gingrich 13 Jeb Bush 6 Someone Else 10

In related news, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who announced today he would not be seeking a third term, dodged questions today about running in 2012 while adding that he believes the GOP needs "new ideas and new faces."

“It’s amazing that we all want a Conservative in the White House...”

Not all...

...one dude in this very thread said he wouldn’t vote for any Jews or Mormons...hell, he didn’t care for Catholics.

(I don’t know how he can see his monitor through that hood.)

I don’t buy your premise at, it depends on the candidate. Carter came out of nowhere to win, Clinton did similar, two years ago the wisdom was that senators couldn’t win.

Obama himself came out of nowhere, the primaries seem to be enough time for a candidate to win the voters attention.

Governors are the best to be elected President, Carter being the exception. They have to be executives every day. In the senate, they sit around and try to build a consensus or listen to how much a lobbyist is going to write on that blank check in front of them.

When you’re in the WH, you can’t afford to gather opinions and stick a wet finger in the air and see which way the fickle wind is blowing.

Screw Palin going to the senate...Why wait for that? So, to sum it up...I agree with ya....lol

" ... we all want a Conservative in the White House but don't worry about their presence, or lack thereof, in the Senate."

Are you on drugs? How old are you? Been reading long? How do you explain 2 terms for Reagan, Clinton and W. All former governors????????

And why in God's name would you want someone who's background is the same as Kennedy, Kerry, McCain or 0bama??????

"Carter came out of nowhere to win, Clinton did similar, two years ago the wisdom was that senators couldn’t win.

I'll agree insomuch that a lot of it has to do with the candidate. But, Carter wouldn't have won if Ford wouldn't have pardoned Nixon, at least I believe that's the conventional wisdom. Even with that, Carter won in a squeaker.

Clinton only garnered 43% of the vote, I would argue that he wouldn't have won if it wasn't for Ross Perot.

And as you point out, both Clinton and Carter came out of no where, much like Obama. They didn't have any political baggage on the national stage in the same way that Palin does. Carter, Clinton and Obama were very much blank slates upon which many moderate voters projected what they wanted to see. Palin is anything but a blank slate, or canvass. If she can't repair her negatives, she can't win a national election.

I still contend the best way to mend her image is to spend a term in the Senate, building her credibility with middle of the road voters.

I am not seeking wisdom from you.
I am just giving you an opportunity to prove you are not a bigot.
For your information, the word “cult” is not found in the Bible, at least not in the KJV that I use.

A cult is defined by a pretty strict set of behaviors and strictures.

So is Christianity so defined. So I ask you again, What is a “cult?” You throw the word around. What do you mean by it?

“I’m not a huge fan of Romeny’s but will take him over the others at this point. IMO, Palin needs to go to the Senate.”

The same could be said for Romney. Governor of liberal Mass. isn’t much of a governmental background.

"Popular Governors make great candidates,

If only Palin was a popular Governor. In fact, she's a deeply unpopular governor on the national stage.

Your adage works when Governors run for the first time. Palin has already run for national office, and she has the battle scars to prove it. In fact, some are still deep and bleeding wounds.

As I said, Palin's negatives aren't go to ebb until she can put herself in a position to build credibility. She's not going to be able to build credibility in a state that's almost as geographically far-removed from the US as you can get with a population that wouldn't make it into the the 20 cities

Sanford by far. Palin second. No one else even comes close, unless DeMont decides to run.

She is a popular Governor, you seem to have some message that you want to keep hammering but you want to do it in a subtle way, well you aren’t very subtle.

We get the fact that you are on an anti-Palin track, your analysis is filtered to keep hammering the message of no Palin.

Palin can run a campaign just fine from her state.

If it’s a cult, as you say, then we need more cults. Every Mormon I know is committed to God and family and has conservative values, and Utah is one of the two most Republican states in the country right now.

Romney has plenty of faults that disqualify him from any serious conservative’s consideration. Focus on those instead of the religious attacks and you will sway more minds.

My preference_

Romney, Palin, Huckster, in that order.

Actually any one of them will be a huge improvement over Barry Hussein Obama, who has never run anything and is a hard core socialist.
