A new poll of the potential 2012 GOP primary field from CNN/Opinion Research Corp. shows a log jam of three candidates at the top. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and current Alaska Governor Sarah Palin are in a statistical dead heat according to the survey conducted May 14-17 with a 4.5% margin of error:

Huckabee 22 Palin 21 Romney 21 Gingrich 13 Jeb Bush 6 Someone Else 10

In related news, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who announced today he would not be seeking a third term, dodged questions today about running in 2012 while adding that he believes the GOP needs "new ideas and new faces."

Well, I’m Jewish and have no problem having a Christian President as long as he’s a free-market Conservative. But...you have a right to your opinion.

I'm a Huckster but I prefer Palin and I prefer Sanford most of all.

Do you understand the hierarchy of their beliefs?

They must submit to their “church”.

I’d not like a President who had to submit to cultist laws

BS squared.
You need to get more in touch with reality.

Agreed. Maybe Mitt can be the Sec. of the Treasury as a consolation?

I’m with Sarah. I like chicks.

Never woulda though I’d say that about a woman pol but she is right stuff.

No question.

I see why old dudes with claymores and weird clothes once followed their queen...some women can be inspiring as leaders.

never woulda thought an old unremoirseful sexist like me would say that either..

God love her....the rest suck. Girly men though I like Huck’s social stances the rest of him makes him untenable

IMO, Palin needs to go to the Senate.

Yeah, joining a club of arrogant morons is a real resume' enhancer.

Unless someone else comes along, I’d like to Giuliani run. He has balls, will attack back and would actually get something done.

Did you sleep through the GOP primary last year?

Dude - it’s all about the economy... it’s going to tank big time because Odummy is wiping us out.

I gotta with Romney if he can articulate a decent game changing plan.

Guiliani is a good choice, and media was ones who cut him out of running with almost no coverage. Romney is the NWO pick, as he has been at Bildeberge Mtgs past few yrs, and is also on Board of Marriot where they’ve had their meetings.

Huck makes a better TV show host IMHO...not a President, and I think he should stay where he is.

I don’t want Jindal (Rhodes Scholar ties to Oxford like Clintoon) and I’m unsure of MINN Gov who isn’t running again,,,,not strong enough I don’t think.

Gingrich has too many sexual affairs in his background, and that would be embarrassing for Conservatives. If there is anyone they will need to emerge strong in next year or so.
I like Palin, but know she needs to be VP Candidate due to damage done last time by media. She is best as the attack dog (pitbull) If she has been studying hard about leftist tactics she can prevail next time.

I’d like to give her a hug too, but not sure if she dig us out of this hole.

It’s going to take more than balancing budgets

He raised, yes, and he probably will have a hefty war chest come 2012. And that could stand in a stark contrast with the state of people affairs. Not a good PR.

It would be nice if he suffers a little class-envy himself.

Dems control Congress absolutely. And if economy sinks and currency hyper-inflate they will have no one to blame (and rightly so). Bad case for election.

I'm hoping for 1994 in 2010, and it appears you are as well. But, we can't overlook historical precedent, especially the year 1934. Look it up. You'll have nightmares.

“Grassroots” - more like paid operatives; and other than falsifying votes alas ACORN not good for anything else. Not sure they will be able to repeat the fraud of 2008.

Call it what you like. I'll call 'em "Jack-Booted Thugs". But, the dropping of the charges last week against the Black Panthers in Philly is a very, very ominous sign. I think that not only can they repeat 2008, it could very well be much worse.

Accomplished a lot? Yes and dems will come to regret it.

We hope

Owns biggest companies - and if they are still on a public dole in 2012, not much of a plus - neither from GM or Citibank employees nor from other people.

This is the one that could really come back to haunt him. I was more than a little surprised by yesterday's poll that said 21% aren't in favor of Obama's takeover of GM. If things get worse for GM in the next three years, and frankly I don't know how they can't, this could be Obama's Waterloo.

Jewish, Mormon, Catholic...
...a good President is a good President.

Those that wouldn’t vote for a Jew or a Mormon or a Catholic can keep their traps shut about Sotomayor’s “wise latina” comments.

Btw, since you’re Jewish, I gotta ask: what do you think of Huckabee?

The country will need to be put in turnaround come 2012.

Who can get the job done? Who has the skill set?

Come on, people, get real.

I agree - we seemed to have drifted away from ‘the most qualified’. Instead it’s a popularity contest - and where race, religion, sound of voice, etc are parameters. Sarah, by far, is the most qualified.

What’s Duncan doin’ this days? Havin’ lunch with Alan Keyes?

Romney, Huckabee etc. have no charisma. Which is the most important ingredient in modern politics.

Sarah is the only conservative that has what Donald Trump calls the "it" factor.

On our side, no one else comes close.

Gee your posts are a flash back to the nasty venom of the pro Romney crowd of the primaries, I notice you are even pulling in the Giuliani supporters back to cheering him on FR and to your cause. Interesting stuff.

“I don’t care for the dumbass bigots that cost the GOP the White House.”

“lot of dummies on the right”

“That leaves out Huckabee.
Gingrich can’t win and JEB won’t run if Mitt’s in.
That leaves Mitt or Sarah, either of which is fine by me.
What’s Duncan doin’ this days? Havin’ lunch with Alan Keyes?”

“Is the Mormon thing a problem?”

“Was it just identity politics? Obama’s a Christian, too.”

“Duncan made an ass of himself.”

“I’ve never heard the case for Huckabee.
Other than he’s not an icky Mormon.”

“Who are these people still voting for Huck?”
“Morons Bigots & Liberals”

The Radical left has taken over the media and the Democrat Party. This is war. The republican party needs a conservative who can speak over the DNC-controlled media AND get through to the common man like Ronald Reagan did. Obama is a snake oil salesman. Every thing he is doing is destroying our economic and military security. The speed of our decline since January has been beyond my wildest nightmares.

New leaders will emerge. John Kasich is running for Governor of Ohio. If he can get elected and do a great job fighting government financial irresponsibility, I like him in the future. Nearer term, I am hoping my Senator, Ensign not Reid, will get in early and be a strong voice for economic conservatism. He was a Veterinarian and his family is involved in the gaming and savings industry.

I'm Roman Catholic and would love to see a Jewish Republican nominee, or a Mormon candidate provided they both satisfy the same caveat you proffer.

We should be much more focused on what candidates do M-F in their official capacities, than how they choose their particular Saturday or Sunday sabbath, JMHO.
