A new poll of the potential 2012 GOP primary field from CNN/Opinion Research Corp. shows a log jam of three candidates at the top. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and current Alaska Governor Sarah Palin are in a statistical dead heat according to the survey conducted May 14-17 with a 4.5% margin of error:

Huckabee 22 Palin 21 Romney 21 Gingrich 13 Jeb Bush 6 Someone Else 10

In related news, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who announced today he would not be seeking a third term, dodged questions today about running in 2012 while adding that he believes the GOP needs "new ideas and new faces."

I think Mark Sanford would be an excellent choice...

Why should Gov. Sarah Palin, rather than Gov. Huckabee or Gov.Romney, be singled out for further political experience?

Of the three governors she is the only one whose state borders two foreign nations - Russia & Canada - so she is the only governor with foreign relations experience AND national defense expertise via defense installation in Alaska! Yet you chose the ONLY woman as lacking somehow.

Hmmm...could it be you’re a chauvinist pig!? / SAR

"Governor Haley Barbour"

Barbour could be a great dark-horse candidate. He's got some lobbying issues, but Obama has completely shot himself in the foot by back-tracking this week on his anti-lobbying campaign pledge.

Sure, Barbour's got that deep Southern drawl which might be a little problem, but he is informed about the issues and the inner-workings of the government bureaucracy than perhaps anyone in the country. He's a masterful debater. I don't know anything about his personal history, but his political bona fides are very, very impressive.

Its a little early to be worrying about who to support in 2012.

Its not too early to look for someone who will take on the Obamists in the here and now. The country is being led off a cliff, we should be in the fight of our lives right now to keep the crazies from wrecking the place.

If you want to know who we should be supporting in 2012 it will be the guy or the lady who is down in the mosh pit mixing it up. Who is speaking up? Who is fearless in calling things by their right name? Who is prepared to get in the faces of the Obamists and their paid propagandists? Who do the Obamists fear, who makes them turn tail and change their tune?

Name that person, and you’ve named the rightful candidate for 2012. Anyone who’s waiting until 2011 to position themselves and get their message crafted and nuanced and group-tested is not the right person.

He said he was a good Christian family values guy for the little guy. That was his lying schtick I heard. Lots of people bought. Apparently they still do. Sad.

Some lefty schmucks like socialist utopian drivel.

Some righty schmucks among us like populist utopian drivel.

Sucks.

I wouldn't like that much either.

I'd like to see America continue to follow Christ.

When I hear her talk I picture a busybody Homeowner's Association President who gets her political ideas from her husband

Ouch. But true. She's no Thatcher.

He raised, yes, and he probably will have a hefty war chest come 2012. And that could stand in a stark contrast with the state of people affairs. Not a good PR.

Dems control Congress absolutely. And if economy sinks and currency hyper-inflate they will have no one to blame (and rightly so). Bad case for election.

“Grassroots” - more like paid operatives; and other than falsifying votes alas ACORN not good for anything else. Not sure they will be able to repeat the fraud of 2008.

Accomplished a lot? Yes and dems will come to regret it.

Owns biggest companies - and if they are still on a public dole in 2012, not much of a plus - neither from GM or Citibank employees nor from other people.

I like Haley, he’d be a great candidate, he’d be a great VP as well, a 2012 Cheney, there is no one anywhere as politically smart as he is, period.

If my memory is accurate you are one of the hard core Mitt Romney workers. You are already well into your Mormon thing on this thread.

Not nearly as much as a Mormon or a Jew.

I’m not a Romney fan, but the real disappointment is seeing Huckabee on that list. Good grief, our party is having an attack of the stupids.

" ... Palin needs to go to the Senate."

Not only no but FRACK no. I'm so sick and tired of anyone here or anywhere else treating the Senate like it's some mandatory step to the presidency. Are you out of your freakin' mind? Next to the UN the US Senate is the most corrupt political entity in the WORLD. Palin has no business wasting her time there.
