June 1, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) Joe Scheidler, the founder of Pro-Life Action League and longtime pro-life activist, today issued a statement denouncing the slaying of Kansas late-term abortionist George Tiller. Tiller was shot dead Sunday morning as he was serving as an usher at his church.
In condemning the murder Scheidler also recalled a chance encounter he had with the abortionist, in which he shared a taxi-cab ride with him on the way to a pro-abortion conference.
We deplore the killing of George Tiller on Sunday morning," said Scheidler.
"It has always been my philosophy that we convert abortionists. As activists committed to saving lives, we vigorously oppose violence."
Scheidler recalled how he once shared a taxi with Dr. Tiller as both were headed from the airport in New Orleans to the National Abortion Federation Convention. Scheidler was attending in order to gather information about the pro-abortion movement.
"Tiller apparently recognized me, but did not recall that I was a pro-life activist. He assumed I was another abortionist attending the conference," said Scheidler. "He enthusiastically extolled the value of the ultrasound in performing abortions, and invited me to visit his clinic in Wichita."
The following day Scheidler attended Tiller's presentation on the use of ultrasound. By then the doctor had realized that Scheidler was a pro-life leader, and refused to proceed with his presentation until Scheidler left the room.
"Having sat and talked with George Tiller, I probably feel a little more connection with him than many other pro-lifers might," said Scheidler. "I am adamantly opposed to what he did for a living. But I believe that anyone can come to the truth. Tiller deserved the chance to turn away from the evil of abortion. I cannot condone the taking of his life."
No problem.
My apologies, I did not start out the day wanting to get into a flame war.
You had a wise dad!
” A man who hardens his neck after much reproof will be suddenly broken beyond remedy.” Proverbs 29:1 (NASB)
Once again, God’s Word sums it up quite nicely.
Seriously, a partial birth abortion involves much more than a simple injection. It is a killing that takes place between the mother's legs. The baby is then wrenched, sometimes requiring great force, from the birth canal. To think that this man was involved in 60,000 makes me sick.
I do not wish that he rest in peace.
The people involved in this industry are depraved. It is a brutally violent, murdering, dismembering, genocide that is occuring all aound us.
Unless we develop the will of steel necessary to force it's end...and that will not be accomplished, IMHO, with rational disscussions over lunch (how can you hope to have a rational dicussion with people who engge in and support this)...then we will be in grave danger of descending into far, far worse depravity and carnage.
Rational discussions are not possible. As I reach my “senior years”, I worry just what that far worse depravity could include. One day, the government may decide that I have lived long enough and hasten my departure by refusing medical treatment or worse.
As long as the abortion problem is looked upon as a “rights of women to control their own bodies”, and that the life in the womb is of no consequence, there will be no change in the law.

I am tying to do so at my site, and drawing flack for it...so I know I am square over the target.
I fear you are right, there will be pro-death minions throughout that ungodly system that is forming.
Are you also upset at such things as the Nuremburg trials sanctioning ‘illegal-in-Nazi Germany’ killings of mass-murderers? Are you a pacifist? Otherwise spare us your pompous, holier-than-thou blathering. A mass-murderer was murdered; justice was served. A moral killing, not necessarily a legal killing. Happens all the time at much lower thresholds of moral transgression.
An assassin working for a sovereign government in time of war can follow legal orders like any other soldier. A vigilante has no legal grounds for his bloody work. War is part of collective self defense; murder is just murder.
The worst thing about Tiller’s murder is it gives the pro-abortion folks cover to further restrain abortion protesters and further liberalize abortion law. More children will die as a result. We cannot fight evil with evil and the forces of evil will reap the profit of this murder.
The night before the last Abortionist was killed I had a dream. Someone had been murdered and cut open like a deer to be gutted. He was laying clinically on what looked like a surgeon’s table in the middle of a living room. Something very strange, though, lying in the middle of his opened up and bloodied guts was a beautiful baby cooing and gently kicking it legs in the air with a happy, innocent look on it’s face. The next day when the Abortionist was killed I thought because he is dead more beautiful, sweet babies live.
Roeder killed one person.
Tiller killed 60 THOUSAND babies.
An equivalency cannot be drawn.
This is very telling. Why did the doctor care one whit who was in the room?
Also, there's a question lurking in the back of my mind about Tiller's "lutheranism." The ELCA is a very liberal group by-and-large, but I believe their policy on abortion is a bit nuanced, and not just straight-up "we love abortion."
If so, then why would the "good ELCA doctor" object to someone sitting in his lecture who represented the other side of the nuance?
Guilty conscience???
In any case, his comment about "going to hell" tells me that he didn't really believe in it.
I’d suggest his offer to baptize and officiate was sarcasm on his part, and that the man was a “mytholical savior” type churchite. Meaning: rampant liberal who loves ceremony for whatever reason. In fact, his churchianity could well have been nothing more than cynicism.
The “church” that Tiller was attending is simply apostate.
They conform to the world’s values, not God’s. And there are numerous proscriptions in the Bible on being “friends with the world”.
Thank you so much for sharing your insights, dear brother in Christ!
Wow, that was some dream. I’d like to dream a dream that last year, we actually had a decent conservative candidate get the nomination, and that person still chose Sarah for VP, and we won in a landslide. We would not be in the mess we are in now. Both foreign affairs and domestic, we are as they say “so screwed”. I hate to admit it, but when I read that Tiller was gone, I let out a Woo Hoo. I was and am glad his killing days are over. I was surprised to learn there are only 2 more late term killers in the USA. I assumed there were many. Late or early, they are all killers. It saddens me that there is a place of death within 30 miles of my farm. The horror of abortion is like the horror of the Holocaust. It was mentioned on FR that abortion has taken many more millions of lives than the evil Hitler could. Yet abortion goes on when Hitler was stopped. I pray often that God does not condemm us all, for what half of Americans condone. I pray he has mercy on us and gives us very conservative pro-life candidates to vote for in every future election. God Bless all the little ones that will be alive because Tiller the monster is dead.
