The following day Scheidler attended Tiller's presentation on the use of ultrasound. By then the doctor had realized that Scheidler was a pro-life leader, and refused to proceed with his presentation until Scheidler left the room.

This is very telling. Why did the doctor care one whit who was in the room?

Also, there's a question lurking in the back of my mind about Tiller's "lutheranism." The ELCA is a very liberal group by-and-large, but I believe their policy on abortion is a bit nuanced, and not just straight-up "we love abortion."

If so, then why would the "good ELCA doctor" object to someone sitting in his lecture who represented the other side of the nuance?

Guilty conscience???

In any case, his comment about "going to hell" tells me that he didn't really believe in it.

The “church” that Tiller was attending is simply apostate.
They conform to the world’s values, not God’s. And there are numerous proscriptions in the Bible on being “friends with the world”.
