June 1, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) Joe Scheidler, the founder of Pro-Life Action League and longtime pro-life activist, today issued a statement denouncing the slaying of Kansas late-term abortionist George Tiller. Tiller was shot dead Sunday morning as he was serving as an usher at his church.
In condemning the murder Scheidler also recalled a chance encounter he had with the abortionist, in which he shared a taxi-cab ride with him on the way to a pro-abortion conference.
We deplore the killing of George Tiller on Sunday morning," said Scheidler.
"It has always been my philosophy that we convert abortionists. As activists committed to saving lives, we vigorously oppose violence."
Scheidler recalled how he once shared a taxi with Dr. Tiller as both were headed from the airport in New Orleans to the National Abortion Federation Convention. Scheidler was attending in order to gather information about the pro-abortion movement.
"Tiller apparently recognized me, but did not recall that I was a pro-life activist. He assumed I was another abortionist attending the conference," said Scheidler. "He enthusiastically extolled the value of the ultrasound in performing abortions, and invited me to visit his clinic in Wichita."
The following day Scheidler attended Tiller's presentation on the use of ultrasound. By then the doctor had realized that Scheidler was a pro-life leader, and refused to proceed with his presentation until Scheidler left the room.
"Having sat and talked with George Tiller, I probably feel a little more connection with him than many other pro-lifers might," said Scheidler. "I am adamantly opposed to what he did for a living. But I believe that anyone can come to the truth. Tiller deserved the chance to turn away from the evil of abortion. I cannot condone the taking of his life."
Scheidler is way too kind. Tiller had 67 years in which to “come to the light” and stop the killing.
I’m just glad he didn’t have 77 or 87 years to crush the skulls of living breathing children.
EXCELLENT. Well stated Jeff. Yes, indeed, WHEN and where will the line be drawn? What does it say of us as a nation, a “Christian” nation and who’s kidding who?? Obviously, we are kidding ourselves, we are self-deceived.
God is NOT mocked and there will be retribution upon this nation, it may be beginning now. We are deserving of nothing but eradication if we, as a nation, do not protect our unborn, partial born, infirm, the elderly, the list goes on and on and we have no excuse whatsoever.
A murderer killed a mass murderer. Why should we care the mass murderer is dead even if we can't allow individuals to take the law into their own hands?
Imagine being enthsiastic about a technology that enabled him to better “harpoon the whale” (abort-speak for plunging a needle into the beating heart of an unborn child.
My Daddy used to say that “Sometimes God uses the wicked to destroy the wicked.” I think that was the case here.
And what people need to recognize is that the ongoing American Holocaust is beyond anything Hitler could have even imagined. Never in their evil and twisted fantasies did Hitler, Eichmann, Himmler, Mengele, et al envision a day when people they considered “subhuman” would willingly bring their children to be killed.
I bet Tiller is Pro-Life now.
That happened all the time in the Bible.
Heck, God HAD to used flawed individuals to do His work,
because He only had one Son, and everyone else is wicked.
Our nation has offened 50+ million such little ones.
You know, since Tiller met his Maker, I wondered if perhaps it was God’s will that Tiller was stopped.
When Tiller was going to be prosecuted for a mere 19 of the abortions that even abortionists cannot perform legally, I remember praying that Tiller would see the evil of abortion and repent.
Tiller had his whole life to change. Maybe the 60,000 babies he killed was evidence that he would never repent and stop the killing. Maybe God did send the man who killed Tiller (who is also now a murderer) to take Tiller out of the baby killing business.
They always say “It was God’s will” when something happens. Like when my young uncle was taken by cancer, others I know taken even younger, and recently an aunt taken suddenly in her sleep. We grieve, but know my loved ones were Christian and are absent from the body, but now present with The Lord. So is it not also possible that God took Tiller out of the game of free will on Earth, and decided Tiller’s will was to kill innocent human life and that it was time for God to judge him and send him to Hell?
I dunno, just something that came to mind on Sunday after the news of Tiller’s demise was made public. Perhaps the man who took Tiller out, was in a way, a soldier of God. A flawed man to be sure and now also a killer, but there is such a thing as a soldier of God, someone who God calls to do things.
I do not have my flame retardant underwear and bra on folks, so be kind in any remarks. It’s just a theory. I do believe fully in God. He is all powerful and can do anything. Why then is it not possible Tiller’s killing was a result of God’s will? Be kind. Just wanted to float this idea out there. I mean there were lots and lots of Chistian soldiers in the Bible, fighting for righteousness. Why should it be any different today?
Exactly right. Thank you for your invaluable research and dedication to the truth.
Hey, I’m with you. I believe God will give us many, many chances to repent before we’re allowed to leave this life.
Tiller used up his last chance, and was taken out of the picture before he killed any more innocents. God used a flawed, wicked, troubled person to do so.
That is a very wise Daddy. I’m writing that quote down. And I agree with that quote as it relates to this issue.
Everyone may be wicked inasmuch as everyone is a sinner. But I think God is able to draw a distinction between a tight-fisted old fart like me who doesn’t tithe and a miserable wretch like Dr. Tiller who kills babies for profit.
If they violated the laws of the United States, yes I do.
If an assassin (French, British, Russian, American, etc) had killed Stalin or Hitler the 1940’s, how would we view the assassin?
Even without knowing how many innocent people would die at their orders?
That's true . . . and he had the chance for many years. Sometimes God just has enough. It's not as if the man just started doing abortions.
