Cheney Supports Gay Marriage

Cheney Supports Gay Marriage It's not surprising when Vice President Dick Cheney disagrees with President Obama. But it is surprising when he takes a more progressive position than the president.

Said Cheney: "I think that freedom means freedom for everyone. As many of you know, one of my daughters is gay, and it is something we have lived with for a long time in our family. I think people ought to be free to enter into any kind of union they wish. Any kind of arrangement they wish. The question of whether or not there ought to be a federal statute to protect this, I don't support. I do believe that... historically the way marriage has been regulated is at the state level. It has always been a state issue and I think that is the way it ought to be handled, on a state-by-state basis... But I don't have any problem with that. People ought to get a shot at that."

Well it doesn’t mean we got to have a busybody Government getting into our everyday affairs.. Also it doesn’t mean that it bans abortion..

No, I’m just saying that this Government was not setup to force MORAL VALUES DOWN OUR THROAT.. It was setup to fight wars, protect our borders, establish treaties in a unified way.

It did not setup our form of Government. THE CONSTITUTION DID.

The premises of the Declaration of Independence are the heart and spirit of the Constitution. Without those principles you can't even begin to understand anything about the Constitution. You have, as Frederick Douglass said, lost the "ring-bolt to our nation's destiny." His simile was a nautical one: you've lost the connection to the mast that keeps you safe in the severe storm.

What about the full faith and credit clause?

What about it, friend? I support the United States Constitution, and am proud to do so.

Moral “values” were at the heart of everything the founding generation did. That’s what made them so great. The abandonment of such is what is steadily causing America to lose its greatness.

Gay people’s natural right to determine their own lives does not extend to forcing the rest of us to officially recognize them.

Very well put...

Who in the world ever taught you that?

The DOI is the fundamental basis for our Country as well as the Constitution, all historians as well as Constitutional scholars recognize that.

Insane? Excuse?

Hell, it’s got more truth to it than anything else.

And if you find a homosexual who’s willing to be honest, they’ll even let it slip that it’s mainly the financial and tax bennies of marriage that appealed to the crowd.

Estate management, assets, inheritances, etc etc.

Anyway, riles up all sides.

Good post, Also, see Reynolds vs the US.

Even though it was a polygamy case, it defined marriage as one man one woman

I always liked the way one of my professors put it (he was the odd conservative in a state university system).

The Constitution was written to protect the ideas put forth in the Declaration. To separate the founding documents is tantamount to separating the head from the body. Detached, both die rather quickly.

Imagine for a moment that the legislature removed any penalty for killing an innocent person by lying in wait.

Excellent point. Too bad more college professors don’t view the documents in that fashion.

That why I would take a crowd ;-)

He can't shoot all of us, just most.

That's why I am in the back of the crowd, after all if he will shoot a friend, his "enemies" don't stand a chance ;-)...

Cheney’s ‘pro-gay rights’ positions by claiming he was just being ‘states rights’ is laughable.

From the 04 debate;

Asked about laws to ban gay marriage, Cheney, who has a gay daughter, suggested that although he may not agree with the President’s desire to pass such a law (the House of Representatives shot down the bill last week), he was loyal to Bush and would support whatever legislation the commander in chief offered. Edwards said the U.S. Constitution does not call for such a law, and praised Cheney as a loving father.

Hardly a “new position”...anyone suggesting it isn’t is just laughable...

Cheney describes same-sex marriage as state issue ... means freedom for everybody,” said Cheney, who took the same stand during the 2000 presidential race. ...
