Late-term abortion doctor George Tiller, a prominent advocate for abortion rights wounded by a protester more than a decade ago, was shot and killed Sunday at his church in Wichita, a city official said.
A City Hall official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak about the case told The Associated Press that the 67-year-old doctor was killed Sunday morning at Reformation Lutheran Church.
Police spokesman Gordon Bassham would not confirm the victim's identity pending notification of relatives. He said the shooting occurred at 10:03 a.m. and the gunman fled the scene in a 1993 powder blue Ford Taurus registered in another part of the state.
Bassham said no suspects were in custody. He said it is not clear whether one or more suspects were involved. Capt. Brent Allred said police were looking for a gunman who fled in a 1993 light blue Ford Taurus registered in Merriam.
Anti-abortion group Operation Rescue issued a statement denouncing the shooting.

That's nothing. The devil is a Christian.
I'm with you. I would never have done it and don't advocate it but I certainly understand it and at least we know Tiller the Killer won't be killing any more babies.
The score is 60,000 to one so I just can't feel bad.
God have mercy on the shooter.
The idea that a church would allow this man to commune is what boggles my mind.
I hope this will not be a case of: round up the usual suspects...
SO what's new about that? Stop worrying what they say in the MSM. Ignore them, and continue to do what is right!
Believe it or not, there are more of us, than there is of them: and that's the truth!
I agree with the first part entirely.
It's just the second part of your statement I'm having trouble with.
I agree that he should be called an alleged doctor. Doctors promise to promote health, but, when someone performs an abortion, he or she kills a person. Any doctor who does that should lose his or her license.
How will this be something new?
At this point, that might actually be a good thing. Far too many of both of those groups thought the Democrats were A-OK last November. If it takes this to make them open their eyes and push back, so be it.
So when presented with that attack, we can counter with, *Then all Muslims are terrorists because of 9/11*, or *All Italians are murders because one was a Mafia hit man.* Or some other such ridiculous analogy.
OTOH, we could point out that for the decades that abortion has been permitted and the millions who have opposed abortion, this sort of event is exceedingly rare.
It is ironic that the left should be so up in arms about him getting killed what with what he did every day.
He died far easier than those he killed.
Exactly as they are doing over at DU. FR is being mentioned frequently.
They are up in arms about the *good doctor*s death, but of course, don't bother to condemn him the thousands he's killed. No, he's provided a *valuable service* to women of the world, lauding him for saving women's lives, totally ignoring the lives of the countless babies he has slaughtered in the most unspeakable ways.
I wonder if GOD thinks he provided a “valuable service”??? Hmmmmmmmm...even an ATHEIST could answer that one.
I think this killing was an in-house job. The left sacrificing one of its own to strengthen it’s political hand.
I agree. Reagan Man thinks Tiller's death will lead to less abortions. I actually think it could possibly lead to more abortions, since Obama can use it as an excuse to demonize pro-lifers and put more restrictions on pro-life causes. The circumstances of Tiller's death (killing him as he attends church is really low) certainly give the left an excuse to make him a maryter for their cause.
One freeper compared it to killing Hitler? That's wrong. Tiller wasn't the one who created the abortion-on-demand culture in America, he was just a willing advocate of that culture doing his best for the cause. If someone in 1938 had assassinated an sleazy SS officer while the NAZI attended his daughter's birthday party (let's say this was a particularly well known SS officer who made no bones about his day job of throwing Jews in the oven and gave interviews about how it was necessary for the survival of the 'Aryan race'), would that have slowed down the Holocaust? Most likely the assassin would quickly terminated and the concretation camp would back in business tomorrow with a newly promoted NAZI officer to run the ovens in his place.
It reminds me of all the whining about how the Vatican supposedly "did nothing" to stop the Holocaust because they didn't publicly go after the NAZI regime. One bishop in a NAZI country actually tried loudly denouncing them, and the result was Hitler's henchmen arrested him and had him killed.
The way we ended the holocaust was eliminating the NAZI government, the way we ended slavery was by subduing the confederacy and abolishing the pro-slavery laws, and the way abortion will end is by doing away with the "constitutional right" to abortion in the United States.
Until then, I think it will be "business as usual" at Tiller's clinic with his "legacy" being carried on by other doctors to take his place.
And yes I absolutely condemn taking the law into your own hands and murdering a civilian while they're at church.
No doubt we're seeing alot of hypocrisy from the left today the way they're denouncing pro-lifers who say Tiller deserved to die. This is the same crowd who openly talked of killing Bush and said the end goal would justify his death.
The killer should plead not guilty of murder, just a VERY LATE TERM ABORTION.
It’s almost asking for trouble to ask the question “How much worse could things get?” Because invariably, the answer is “Lots!”
What you pointed out, the abortions themselves, is just one facet to what Obama could involve himself with. He could push for laws against any protest, he could spend vast amounts of money on developing new means to abort fetuses, huge subsidies to abortion providers, even advertisements to encourage women to have abortions.
Efforts might be made to coerce abortions, and don’t think it impossible, it’s been done before in the US, of children who might be retarded, or have “bad genes”, or from women who have already had some children. Most horrible of all, encouraging doctors to kill infants already born, but that are “defective”.
In Britain, there have been child “euthanasia” over as little as an easily repairable cleft palate. The child’s life was worth less than a small, cosmetic scar on their upper lip.
So be very careful asking the question “How much worse could things get?” Because invariably, the answer is “Lots!”
This is a gift to Obama and the Left.
The murder of Tiller gives Obama the moral high ground on abortion. It gives Obama credibility to his Notre Dame speech.
Also the late night comics will have a field day.
“Anti-abortion wackos want you to repsect life or they’ll kill you.”
“Guns don’t kill people. Anti-abortion wackos do.”
The murder of Tiller comes at a bad time. Just when the pro-life sentiment was gaining the polls. Now comes this murder.
Murder is bad so I would have preferred that the guy crushing living fetuses brains for a living not get killed but overall I feel as sad today as I was when Saddam Hussein was hanged which on a scale of 1-10 is about a -0.5
I am NO fan of this guy but the facts need to be spoken. These late term abortions are not done with the brain being crushed but instead the baby is first put to sleep and then the heart stopped, similar to a pet being put down. And these cases are always done due to severe birth defects that are not compatible with life. Most of which are not Downs Syndrome but situations much more severe.
With that being said, I am still pro-life 99.9% of the time but I do see grey issues. Flame away.
