Late-term abortion doctor George Tiller, a prominent advocate for abortion rights wounded by a protester more than a decade ago, was shot and killed Sunday at his church in Wichita, a city official said.

A City Hall official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak about the case told The Associated Press that the 67-year-old doctor was killed Sunday morning at Reformation Lutheran Church.

Police spokesman Gordon Bassham would not confirm the victim's identity pending notification of relatives. He said the shooting occurred at 10:03 a.m. and the gunman fled the scene in a 1993 powder blue Ford Taurus registered in another part of the state.

Bassham said no suspects were in custody. He said it is not clear whether one or more suspects were involved. Capt. Brent Allred said police were looking for a gunman who fled in a 1993 light blue Ford Taurus registered in Merriam.

Anti-abortion group Operation Rescue issued a statement denouncing the shooting.

The idea that a late-term abortion doctor goes to church just boggles my mind.

This is horrible. Not only was a life murdered in a house of worship, but the entire pro-life movement will be smeared by the radical feminists and news media.

Murder is bad so I would have preferred that the guy crushing living fetuses brains for a living not get killed but overall I feel as sad today as I was when Saddam Hussein was hanged which on a scale of 1-10 is about a -0.5

Well, now the Left has a pretext for:

1. More gun control laws;

2. More "hate crime" legislation. Soon it will be a felony to think an abortionist is a murderer.

What this doctor did was indefensible. So is his murder.

Isn’t it amazing when one right wing nut does something horrible, we are ALL horrible, but when a majority of some of our ‘minorities’ create havoc day after day (most not reported), they are just ‘victims’?

A murderer is murdered....at his church no less. If the “dr” had been routinely murdering adults he wouldn’t get any sympathy.

The fallout will be so ugly.

As opposed to what other day of the week?

Seriously, why do you still care about what they say? The day our side stops caring about what the leftists say, and starts boldly telling the truth is the day things begin to turn around. You can walk on eggshells, worried about what the left might say. I couldn’t care less.

My initial response to this was that Obama would use it as an excuse to open the floodgates for abortion, like the Nazis used the death of Horst Wessel.

But then I was reminded of the moral of an Aesop fable: “The tyrant needs no excuse.” Which in retrospect, should have had the axiom, “But will use any excuse they can get.”

in the absence of any information, there's at least at 25% chance he was done in by a surrogate of the left in order to bring this issue to boil and demonize all those who are active in the effort to stop abortion.

Now, the long and short of this awful turn of events is this: if abortion were not legal, the good doctor would probably be prescribing antibiotics to old ladys and golfing 3 days a week.

To be honest that was my first thought...

May Jesus forgive the person or persons responsible for this murder.

May Jesus forgive me for not being able to feel that this was a terrible crime.

Thats what I was thinking. It could have just been a turf war among the churches.
