Queen Elizabeth is not amused.
Indeed, she is decidedly displeased, angry even, that she was not invited to join President Obama and Frances president, Nicolas Sarkozy, next week at commemorations of the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, according to reports published in Britains mass-circulation tabloid newspapers on Wednesday. Pointedly, Buckingham Palace did not deny the reports.
The queen, who is 83, is the only living head of state who served in uniform during World War II. As Elizabeth Windsor, service number 230873, she volunteered as a subaltern in the Womens Auxiliary Territorial Service, training as a driver and a mechanic. Eventually, she drove military trucks in support roles in England.
While serving, she met the supreme Allied commander for the D-Day landings, Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, and developed a fondness for him, according to several biographies. This prompted Queen Elizabeth, who was crowned in June 1953, to say in later years that he was the American president with whom she felt most at ease.
But on June 6, when Mr. Obama and Mr. Sarkozy attend commemorations at the iconic locations associated with the American D-Day assault Utah Beach, the town of Ste.-Mère-Église, where the first United States paratroopers landed, and the American war cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer the highest-ranking British representative will be Prime Minister Gordon Brown. His main role will be at ceremonies at the town of Arromanches, near the beaches where British troops landed.
How the queen came to be excluded has become entangled in a thicket of diplomatic missteps, or misunderstandings, depending on whether the account is given in London or Paris.

He’s going to Dresden and no doubt will blast Britain for bombing Dresden.
I recently heard an inspiring recording of Princess Elizabeth at about age 12 delivering a radio address cheering on her countrymen in the throes of war. The King and Queen never sent Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret out of London during the blitz, as so many other families did, believing their duty was to remain with their people.
Queen Eliz has conducted herself with dignity at all times and discharged the duties of her position without fail. For this reason alone, she'd be an embarrassment to the cheap chiseling money grabbing country hating louts in office now and of course they don't want a public comparison.
Dude it was a joke. Lighten up this morning.
Hmm. I guess out of 43 people only you and I actually read the article.
As far as you know. Barry might have insisted that she not be there or failed to speak up and insist that she should be. We don't know. But the event has not happened yet and there is ample time for France to correct the "mistake" if they so desired. The fact that the royals are going public with this means that she was purposely left out by "someone".
The list, ping
“Whose bust did he put in its place. Malcom X?”
No Idi Amin
When the O’s turned their backs and left the room before her, I knew trouble it was a’comin’! The O’s are classless, clueless and, well let’s just say they are not your humble Christian couple. People like this enjoy ignoring protocol. After all, THEY are the ones to which we should bow. /s
Yes. Every good son wants a bust of his father in his room.
When one remembers that Zero’s baby daddy opposed the British in Kenya in the 1950s, when Kenya was a British colony, all of these slights against the British come into clear focus.
Actually she was a transport officer not a mechanic, she enlisted in 1945 just before the war ended and took a three week course, she ate in the officer's mess and slept in Windsor during the course, she did not associate much with fellow trainees and never spent any time in the army doing duties.
Is that the way he treats all old “typical white” ladies, akin to Grandma?
Elizabeth (nice name, that!) and I are distantly related. I have always admired her poise, courage, and grace. I remember her coronation, and her marriage to Prince Philip. She’ll always be my favorite Brit, hands down. If she was deliberately snubbed for these events, she is right to be furious. If it was an accident, she will be the first to acknowledge it, and move on. She’s simply CLASSY.
Define “stupid”.
Just the Brits?
I don't think so. He's out to piss off everyboy in the world, except left-wing moonbats, and perhaps perverts.
He specifically continues to piss off:
Taxpayers who actually pay net taxes.
Business.
Real scientists.
People who believe that a technologically advanced society is a good thing.
People who use energy.
Non-muslims.
Non African-Americans.
Did I miss anyone?
I disagree a bit.
I will give her a tie with "Porque no te callas?" King of Spain.
Fair is fair.
To be fair, Prince Andrew flew combat missions in the Falklands.
