A KSC landing always has it coming over San Angelo. My only regret, the 10:11 landing. I saw one in the late 90s, pre-dawn here, daylight landing in Florida: Spectacular contrail! I hadn’t kept up, I didn’t realize what I had seen until this huge signature went over the horizon about the time the muted sonic boom hit and I put the pieces together.
I hope for a Fla. landing, I’ll be watching here 8:30-9:00 Central time, see if its visible daylight. It was a he** of a show pre-dawn.
Now I’ve got the Top Gun theme in my head and I feel like playing it.
It seems like a 50/50 chance of a Kennedy landing. They may have to land at Edwards AFB.
Prayers for their safety wherever they put down! This has been a marathon!
New Orleans is the best place to see the shuttle reenter. It’s really breathtaking.
Well it’s gotta come home sometime. :)

Crew Begins Deorbit Preparations

The Atlantis crew has begun deorbit preparations, a four-hour process. The crew woke up this morning at 1:01 a.m. EDT to “The Ride of the Valkyries,” composed by Richard Wagner. It was played for the entire crew. The first landing opportunity is at Kennedy Space Center at 10:09 a.m. EDT. The entry team continues to monitor weather conditions at Kennedy. The weather at Edwards Air Force Base is not a concern for a landing there.

Thanks for that nice post. I was wondering if my son (at 29 Palms) might get a look. I guess not. He’s east of Edwards.
