“Before weighing in on the split-screen showdown that occurred today in Washington, let me be clear about the views I have on the questions before us: I write as one who believes that waterboarding is counterproductive at best, and torture at worst.

And you’re writing for CBS News? Why, I’m shocked!

Great article! Editorial by the Senior Editor? And CBS no less??

I’ve never been a big fan of Dick Cheney. I’ve not been a fan nor have I been a detractor. However, since he’s been able to speak as a private citizen, I have been so impressed and amazed. You go Cheney! He’s doing a great job.

Where is Bush? Last I heard of him, he congratulated Obama and said something about supporting our new Prez.

There is talk here of Cheney for President. I’ll pass on that, he’s doing too well being a spokesperson for the American people. The President cannot do that.

If President Obama—eloquent as he is—is unable to persuade those who are inclined to agree with him, he ought to reconsider his debating strategy.

This is a lie. Hussain is not eloquent. He is tongue tied and inarticulate. However, he can read...and as long as he is fed lines can speak them with force.

He repeated the performance in 2004, manhandling the silver-tongued John Edwards in the process.

Manhandling is putting it lightly. Cheney destroyed Breck Girl in that debate.

Maybe he'll consider taking a lesson from Dick Cheney.

Since when did vague imagery become “eloquence”? Anyone can come up with metaphorical phrases, not everyone can make their point clearly and leave no room for honest doubt of their position. Even those of us who can’t do the second, can recognise the difference.

I didn’t get to listen to either speech today, but I could tell that Cheney gave the better speech just by listening to the Ed Schultz show today. He was so fake in his praise of Obama’s speech, I could just tell that Cheney was more convincing.

I think I’ll send Ed a male cheerleader’s outfit with OBAMA written across it.

Is there any doubt who the leader of the Republican PArty and conservatism in general truly is?

Not for me at any rate, I stand with Dick Cheney.

Amazing that this CBS editor comes right out and says, "I agree with Obama in principle, but in practice, Cheney was the only one making a solid argument."

Because while that's what he's *saying*, he's most likely *thinking* is "I think Cheney is an evil mastermind, and I'm terrified that Obama looks like a ill-prepared lightweight in comparison."

He should be scared. Because Obama won the election by running his mouth from the sidelines, talking trash about the big boys in the ring. Now he's in the ring, not really doing so hot, and good old Dick Cheney is relaxing the sidelines. With a lot of free time on his hands.

If I were an Obama enabler in the media, I'd be scared stiff. Because this is just the beginning of Obama failing to measure up.

Proof, McSelloutCain shouldn’t have run From the Bush Administration.

Doing so was to confirm this in the public’s eyes.

I believe we can say that Obama is lying and Dick Cheney is telling the truth, and truth always wins.

Bob Beckel and Larry O’Donnell were doing their enraged Donald Duck impressions today, in response to Cheney. Two uglier tantrums I’ve not seen in many moons.

The debater succeeded in making his points better than the speechmaker because while the President is justly celebrated for his vaunted eloquence, he phoned in his speech and thought that the use of pretty words alone would allow him to carry the day. Meanwhile, the Vice President--no one's idea of a charismatic rock star--was forced to make up for his lack of a silver tongue by tightly and carefully constructing reasoned arguments to support his position.

Excellent summary.

If this guy is so sure waterboarding and other EIT didn't get results then why isn't he pressuring Bozo daily, in the press, to release the memos that show what it did, or didn't, accomplish. Similar to the BC that never gets shown, if you refuse to release the memos that means that there is probably something in them that doesn't look good for Bozo. If waterboarding, insects in the cell and the other fake torture methods didn't glean any info then why is Bozo obviously afraid to declassify them?

This idiot should be pressuring Bozo constantly to release them to teach Cheney and the rest of us dirty conservatives a lesson.

None of the Drive bys are pressing for it for the simple reason they know it saved lives and they don't want to show the country what a bunch of dumb a**es the left is composed of.
