EXCLUSIVE: Four New York City men were arrested Wednesday in connection with an alleged plot to blow up New York City synagogues and other city locations, WNBC's Jonathan Dienst has learned.
Raids by the FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorist Task Force in the Bronx captured the suspected ringleader and three followers in what law enforcement sources are calling a homegrown terrorist plot.
Investigators stress the suspects' meetings had been infiltrated early on and there was "no chance" the alleged plot could succeed.
Investigators said several of the suspects are Muslims who allegedly talked about destroying two Jewish temples, including at least one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.
The men ordered and accepted delivery of materials they believed were bomb-making ingredients, authorities said. But investigators said they made sure the materials the suspects received were inert. Officials tell WNBC they moved in now so the alleged plot could not progress any further.
The four men are in custody and are expected to be arraigned Thursday in White Plains federal court on terrorism-related counts.

The ACLU people will be screaming "Entrapment! Entrapment!"
Did these vermin become terrorists because of Gitmo or the Abu Grab pictures?
Not really, but thanks for telling me what Muslims think :)
And sorry for being sarcastic about it, but I am really sick of hearing this BS line from people, which is completely untrue.
To further delve into the point, the “orthodox” Muslims you speak of don’t consider many Muslims besides purists themselves to be Muslims. Kinda like Freepers and other conservatives :)
confidential to DiFi: that's why you don't want to house those malignant stains on humanity in the penal system; don't give them access to a base of raw material. Might as well give them the Stingers if you are going to follow your plan - at least you have the opportunity to ensure the missiles are inert. What about the human missiles?
I think you missed my point.
Gee, did you even bother reading my point?
Try it before spouting off next time please.
Thank you for saying it!
Yet...........
I don't claim to know what you and the Muslims you generally hang out with think.
I am aware of what the Qur'an and Hadith say about what Muslims are supposed to think, having read the Quran in it's entirety, along with large chunks of the Hadith (sayings of Mohammad, available online here from the Muslim Student Association). I also own and have read the English translation of Reliance of the Traveler, the 14th century manual of Islamic jurisprudence. Additionally, I skim some Islamic sites from time to time.
If we can agree that an "orthodox Muslim" is somebody who believes that the Qur'an is the literal word of Allah as revealed to Muhammad, and that what is dictated in the Qur'an is to be followed by believing Muslims, and that Muhammad is a prophet whose life and actions are to serve as a guide for how Muslims should behave, then certain things follow.
For example: Hadith Volume 4, Book 53, Number 352: :
Allah's Apostle said, "Allah guarantees him who strives in His Cause and whose motivation for going out is nothing but Jihad in His Cause and belief in His Word, that He will admit him into Paradise (if martyred) or bring him back to his dwelling place, whence he has come out, with what he gains of reward and booty."And Qur'an 9.111:
Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in return) is the garden (of Paradise): they fight in His cause, and slay and are slain: a promise binding on Him in truth, through the Law, the Gospel, and the Qur'an: and who is more faithful to his covenant than Allah? then rejoice in the bargain which ye have concluded: that is the achievement supreme. As far a Muhammad is concerned, in Qur'an 33.21:
Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and who engages much in the Praise of Allah. So anybody believing in the Qur'an MUST consider the examples of Muhammad to be the standard for how he is to conduct himself. And Muhammad conquered, killed and pillaged his way to power.
I grant that there are people who can choose to pick selected bits out of the Qur'an and call that Islam, but the orthodox Muslims will not consider them real Muslims.
The shock is that the article actually mentions 'muslims'.
That's right. And you don't settle uigers trained by bin Laden en masse in a uiger community in the US.
Fair enough point. It is defining who is “orthodox” and who is Taliban. From my experience, there is quite a difference between Orthodox and Talibanized Muslims.
The main thing to be determined, is what percentage of the "ethnic Muslim" population of the US and of the world, consider themselves "orthodox" Muslims. Here I use the word "orthodox" in a similar sense to talking about Orthodox Jews as being Jews who are serious about following Judaic Law as laid out in Torah and Talmud.
An orthodox Muslim would necessarily have to take the Muslim side in any conflict between Muslims and non-Muslims, and could not betray fellow Muslims to non-Muslim law enforcement.
One could consider the Taliban as "ultra-orthodox" Muslims. I don't dispute that there is a spectrum of orthodoxy among Muslims, just as there is among Jews and Christians. The crucial question is how many orthodox and ultra-orthodox Muslims we have, since that end of the spectrum can be expected to be the most dangerous.
The phenomenon of the Taliban in Afghanistan and Pakistan, (and this is just my personal opinion) is tied to the Islamic concept of zakat (erroneously described as charity for the poor).
Zakat (for the benefit of other Freepers) is an obligatory tax on Muslims, computed as 2 1/2 percent of the wealth of the person (above a certain threshold). The poor are not the only recipients of zakat. Zakat is also payable to clerics, Islamic students (Taliban) and for the financial support of those engaged in Jihad. It is to the benefit of the Taliban to be strong advocates of orthodox Islam, since they are financial beneficiaries of the zakat tax, and their being engaged in preaching fundamentalist Islam and engaging in Jihad is what legitimizes their demands for financial support via zakat.
Does anyone know if these “suspects” are U.S. citizens?
Gibbs tried to make a point in today’s press briefing that nobody is suggesting that these suspects are any less dangerous than those held in Gitmo or that they should be sent to Gitmo.
They were apprehended on American soil by the FBI, not captured by the military/CIA on foreign soil while at war. There’s a big difference between the two circumstances. Gibbs is an ignorant putz.
This guy definitely read the pamphlet on “How Not to Look Like a Terrorist.”
I read the story. I was just being a smart-Alec. I admit it. Looks like undercover work. Sweet.
Unless some ACLU lawyer comes in and says the undercover officers resorted to devious means in order to frame these guys....
Or host show trials in ground zeroville.
Total agreement, my FRiend. Looks like sense is an uncommon commodity these days.
